Potential Imdaar List - After Action Report

By Papamambo, in X-Wing

This is a follow up to my previous thread ( http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/107540-potential-imdaar-list-thoughts/ ) regarding this list..

I ran this list at Imdaar this weekend and here's what happened -

Carnor Jax - PTL, HU (32)

Royal Guard Pilot - PTL x2 (50)

Howlrunner - (18)

Well, after action report time..

3 rounds - 2 losses and 1 modified win.

First match up was the list I chose above against a mini-swarm with 3 academies and Howl and a Bounty hunter. We initially took out each other's Howlrunner, then I took one of his Academy pilots. In the final round of this match up he took one of my RGP. 30 points taken for me, and 43 for him. Modified win for my opponent :(

2nd match had me paired against 2 Firesprays. Boba Fett (with a boatload of upgrades) and Krassis with a healthy amount of upgrades as well. First round we were in range due to some poor flying on my part, one of my Royal Guards was one shotted after a brush with an asteroid. Howl, Carnor, and the remaining Guard concentrated on Boba. I managed to eliminate him after some interesting cat and mouse games, and then I lost Carnor. We went to time again, but due to the upgrades on Boba I squeaked out a modified by 10 points.

Last match was against a Blue with HLC and opportunist, Ibby with HLC and a couple other upgrades I can't recall, and Wes with some upgrades, the only one of which I can recall was Flechette torpedoes.

Again, bad flying on my part had me hitting an asteroid doing damage to my Royal. He was taken out quite easily. I then lost Howlrunner. I was able to take out Wes, but in doing so left myself wide open to his B's who gave me the old one, two punch and never looked back. Full 100 point loss. Poor flying lost me the match and I wasn't able to recover unfortunately.

Lesson learned though. I really need to practice the art of flanking and taking the perfect shot when I am not exposed. One more Imdaar event next weekend, so I'll try again. .

Er,

Your last opponents list was illegal if he had Opportunist on a Blue. That is an elite talent and Blues can't have them.

Hats off to you for flying such a ballsy squad.

My bad.. it may have been on Both Ibby and Wes.. I usually take pictures of every match I play, but for some reason I neglected to do so this time out. I do remember that both B's had HLC's on them, and I'm pretty sure the Blue had something else (surprisingly no Adv Sensors though..), though I can't recall exactly what it was..

As for flying the list.. I have to say that when I flew it against my friend the week before, I flew flawlessly. I don't know if it was the excitement of the tournament that caused me to fly so badly or what, but a lot of the things I said I SHOULD so, I just neglected to do. That caused me to be in firing arcs when I shouldn't be, fly into asteroids etc.

My plan for the tournament was to use the RGP's ahead of Howlrunner, with Carnor off to the side flanking. When things got hairy, I was willing to sacrifice Howl if it meant I needed to break off the RGP's and set them up for flanking as well. That I didn't do for some reason.

Especially in the last round, I ended up jousting (a stupid thing to do with glass cannons..) when I should have been jockeying for the perfect shot.

I plan on trying to tweak this as much as possible, maybe going to 4 RGP's with PTL (of course I need another set of Aces for that). It was definitely nice to have the high PS of Carnor and Howl, and to be able to shoot first in almost every match.. But with the PS 6 of the RGP's being as high as it is, I would almost be guaranteed to shoot first in most matches anyways, with very few exceptions. I could tweak things further and drop down to a PS 4 with 4 Sabers and save 4 points, but that wouldn't help me much..

I just need to remember when flying that if I don't have the perfect shot, don't take it. The perfect shot for an Interceptor is broadside or from the rear. I would have been far better served (especially in the 3rd match) to boost and barrel roll out of firing arcs rather than trying to joust - something that Interceptors are horrible at.

Sounds like you did pretty well, with 1 Mod win, a loss, and a very close loss. Don't beat yourself up too much, flying 4 Ties in a timed event is a very difficult. You have to be dodging arcs all day, and as soon as you misread your opponent's moves or make one error in moving you pretty much lose an interceptor against good opponents.

I also feel ya with the temptation to joust at the end of the tournament. You're a bit worn out, and worried about trying to coordinate a bunch of moves. If you have a single misstep then it was all for not. So it just easier to line you guys up (especially with Howl) and duke it out, and get the game over with. Unfortunately BWs love that kind of game, and interceptors definitely don't.
