Heavy Blaster has an auto-fire function, which allows to make extra hits for every two advantages on the attack check. Jury Rig talent allows to reduce the price of activating an ability by one advantage. Unlike some other talents, Jury Rig doesn't specify that it can only be applied once per item. Twice jury rigged Heavy Blaster = total destruction of everything in the Long Range radius?
Infinite Damage
The talent entry on page 138 explicitly states that the cost of quality activation cannot be reduced to lower than one: "... decrease the Advantage cost on its Critical, or any other effect by one to a minimum of one" (my emphasis).
Jury Rigged is only applied once imo per item.
Edited by 2P51The talent doesn't explicitly state that you have to use it on a new piece of gear per rank, although I'd agree that it would be the intention. While the wording isn't as specific as other talents, it does state: "... the character chooses one personal weapon or piece of armor per rank ...".
I submitted a rules question.
Jury Rigged is only applied once imo per item.
A while back this question as submitted to Support and Sam specified that this was the correct interpretation.
Perfect, thanks big K.

It occurs to me we should have a rules question and answers sticky thread. Some of these same questions keep popping up.

Sounds like you're the right droid for the job to start up such a thread. ![]()
Sure...............how do I do that?................
Yah, that's a bit cluttered though, be nice if there was just a question and official answer one.
Okay, so with Jury Rig, you can reduce the auto-fire requirement down to a single Advantage. But it's still going to chew up one Advantage for each time blast that it auto-fires. And with Superior Weapon quality, you can get an automatic Advantage.
But that doesn't mean an unlimited number of blaster auto-fires, just that in this case you'd get one extra auto-fire above and beyond what you would otherwise normally get based on your roll.
So, it's still pretty deadly, but it's not as deadly as you were thinking. And remember, each blast is a separate attack and has to go through the Soak on the target, which will reduce the total amount of damage that they will suffer.
Now, if you put that in the hands of someone who has Agility 6 plus the +1 Agility mod cyber-arm, and they train up to a Ranged skill of rank 5, they're going to be throwing one hell of a lot of dice, and they're likely to get one hell of a lot of advantages, which means that there's probably going to be a lot of targets that are dying.
But then that is just a scaling problem, and you need to throw tougher opponents at your PCs. ;-)

You misread. I've said that we apply Jury Rig twice, to reduce the activation cost to zero advantages.

As Jegergryte stated above, that cannot be done as per the talent description on page 138.

I would call the above linked threat a "FAQ about the game." It's really helpful!
It would probably be useful to have a similar thread that is a compilation of "FAQ about the rules." I remember Saga Edition had one like that, and "official answers" were in a certain color while "answers that seem to be the most widely accepted interpretation" were in another color.
