I was one left turn away from winning a ship as my Falcon was blocked by another Falcon in the corner of the mat during the Imdaar Alpha tournament in Cincinnati. A year ago if someone had told me that I’d be in a gaming tournament, I’d have said they were nuts. But I love X-Wing Miniatures so much that I went to my first gaming event ever but didn’t understand the scoring as well as I should have. The guy playing against me gave me a handshake congratulating me on my victory and we both went to filling out our sheets for the next round. If I moved a sharp three to clear his base I’d still overlap him. If I took the easy 3, I’d be off the map. So we stayed locked like that until the time ran out. I could have taken a hard 1 to the left and gotten off him, but the next turn would carry me off the map. However, he had one hit left and I was at range one with Han’s reroll. So it wasn’t much of a risk to get a couple of hits, but we figured that Han was more valuable point wise than Chewie so I’d get the win. But, Chewie had more upgrades than I did, so he still had two more points on the board which we realized when we filled out our closing sheets from the match. If I had only turned hard left, and blasted, I’d have a Wave 4 ship. But that’s a hard lesson that I will never forget regarding scoring.
I put some pictures along with some other comments about the event on this article at this link:
Overall, I was very impressed with the new ships. The TIE Phantom looked to me to be the most dominate ship—clearly. But they all looked interesting and fun to play. It was a great event and a lot of fun. Everyone had a great time and it was well worth an afternoon of gaming. A nice job by everyone involved, as usual from Fantasy Flight down to the store we played at,Yottaquest.
