I got slaughtered today.

I realize my mistake now was not using my full 100 points. Both games I played I had two Academy pilots, Mauler Milthil with Marksmanship, and Vader with determination. I think I should have played a couple more basic TIE pilots or one of my basic Interceptor pilots. thoughts?

Vader is more of a defensive ship that doesn't hit very well. He's slippery as all hell but he just isn't a good closer. That is why there are many threads around the Tie Advanced and how overpriced it is.

2 AP (24)

MM with Mark (20)

Vader Determination (30)

You only flew with 74 points in a 100 point tournament? You were going in under gunned by number of ships and then with an over costed Vader you really didn't have much of an offensive punch to your list. All any player would have to do is take out Mauler and you had a toothless list.

Generally, you only go 1-3 points under the 100 point cap for initiative.

Don't worry. I flew Wedge, Horton, and Roark and got slaughtered. I put my report under the "Disappointing AoIA" report from someone who got 2nd place in their tournament.

First of all the fire power was lame. Sure I had 2 Ion Cannon but they only do 1 damage if they hit. My total Firepower was 6. Roak doesn't work good with high pilot skill. Sure he can make their skill higher but if their skill is already high and they already shoot first.

If you like Wedge & Roark, you might like my rebel build I used at my first two tourneys.

Wedge + Swarm Tactics

Roark + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist

Blue Bwing

Rookie Xwing

Way more firepower than your list currently has, and uses roark's ability better.

In my defense it was my first tourney. That and i need to start going to my local shop and play some more and find out what squad works for me.

If you go elite, you need more firepower than Vader offers.

If you go swarm, well spam them Ties and Howlrunner.

If you wanna mix, you need a decked out elite ship with high initiative. Can be an Interceptor, Firespray, or now a phantom or defender. Or even a Bomber. With that you usually want a miniswarm with Howl and as many (Academy) Ties as you can afford. Usually 3-4 depending on which elite guy you run.

- Consider using a 4-ship build. More hitpoints, more firepower. I know All the rebel aces look shiny but don't send them do a job two rookie pilots can do much better.

- if it has to be a 3-ship it has to have lots of thought put into. I still achieve miracles with good old Frog squadron (Wedge, Luke, Biggs with appropriate upgrades). Horton also is really meh... Even with 12 pilot skill. At least now you have a droid to give him an elite upgrade...
