(Probably) the smallest IA tourney...

By Ailowynn, in X-Wing

And how resolve it, did you play???, and the prizes, it's the best part, you know that no matters the results you have a ship secure, right???, greettings.

You should all be happy that at least someone in your area knows what the game is. I've been trying to get friends and acquaintances to play for half a year and nobody gives a !@#$%^*.

Well, if you want i dare you for the the ship, greettings.

We had 14 at Snake Eye's Games in Altoona, PA. I wish I could have been at a 12 person Regionals, almost guaranteed to get top 8 at that rate.

I am loving my Phantom for taking second!

Had 14 at one store and 2 at the other. Running at the same time.

would have probably drove to those, we had alot here in the metro area (MN) with around 10 to 20 players are almost all of them. SO looking at the winners of them, alot were the same , which great for them, bad for me. But I only got to one, and the dice didn't want to stay up that late for me (we started one at 10pm) so they just stopped rolling hits.

12 for REGIONALS????? Close to that many people drove 5 hours to San Fran from Southern California to go to a regional. We really should have got a regional, X-Wing is really picking up here.

On a none ranting note, the 2 events i went to had 12 each (there was quite a few events near me).

We had 5 in Utah.

It when something like this for attendance;

Fri 18

Sat AM 16

Sat Noon 6

Sat PM 18

Sun 4

Oh, crap--I meant store championships, not regionals (brainfart!). In any case, though, it is a bit strange to me to see a not-insignificant number of stores that had almost no attendance. I always sorta figured that IA was a bigger deal than store champs to most people. Hmmmm....

We had someone from outside the country attend our regionals.

In these small turn outs you should really award one of the ships to the TO.

Rant incoming, avert your eyes....

Kinda disappointing to see many stores getting the IA event with poor turnouts, not to start this again BUT we didn't get any in our country (even after heated emails with FFG directly from what I have been told) so we had a regular event anyways, 14 turned out for our event which would have been much more no doubt had there not been the cities yearly comicon equivalent event on the same weekend at another location.

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves, I will have to be content with store credit that I won to actually buy my prizes when they hit the shelves in a few weeks time.

Most IA events were pretty heavily attended. Maybe half a dozen had truly low turnouts, and the biggest issues came from places that had lots of events in a small area and limited timespan.

Did anyone attend the tourney in Sacramento CA? I was planning on going there, but life happened.

Started playing X-Wing in early April. In the beginning of May I tried my 1st tourney. I got there 30 mins before it started and an hour after it was supposed to start, I ended up leaving. No one showed up. TO said there's a few guys somewhere that buy stuff and play games with like whole fleets. They come in at their own pace it seems when convenient to them or something.

I figured they'd for sure show up at the pre-release for shots at winning the new ships. Nope. One guy other than myself showed. Not sure how far he came but it's a 60 mile round trip every time I go to the store for what usually turns into a non event when I try to play something wether it's X-wing, 40k, whatever.

The store let us play anyway. We paid our fee, went to the table and flipped a coin, winner got 1st choice of the ships. I forget who won the flip but I got my Defender and he his Phantom. A store employee wanted to play but couldn't since he had to work but paid his entry fee and nabbed the E-Wing. The other 2 of us played for the Z-95(I lost). Game in the end was funny with my lone Academy TIE with 2 hull points left chasing his last ship, the PS 5 Firespray, that had no shields left but all 6 hull points. I stayed right in that thing's side, out of it's firing arc for like 3 turns. Every time I took shots at it, I'd only hit it once that he then evaded. But he finally got my little TIE but it was sure funny.

We didn't try the new ships. He was keen to try X-Wings against my TIE swarm as he usually plays Imps. He took Wedge, Luke, Biggs with no upgrades so he could squeeze an A-Wing in VS my Fel, Howl and 4 Academy TIEs. I won that, taking out all 4 of his while losing a single Academy TIE.

Yes - huge turnout. There were 32 players, which I think was beyond anyone's expectations.

By the end, the top two didn't even want to play the final. One guy was hoping for an E-Wing, the other wanted a TIE Defender, so they just called it and took the ships they wanted. I don't know what 3rd and 4th did to resolve who got which of the other two ships. The shop was scheduled to close before the final round would have even started, so I think everyone was just pretty happy to get going. It was a bit of a bummer not to see the final round play out, but after a day of just fighting to be in the top half to get one of the 16 promo cards, it was nice for it to end.
