So, I finally ordered my Corvette, since it was only like $60 on Amazon and since I've introduced my friends at my hometown (away from college for the summer) we've played almost exclusively epic games. Figured we'd enjoy the thing, so why not?
Anyways, the problem is that I have no way to store it safely. I need to upgrade my storage anyway, as I'm not gonna have room in my plano boxes for wave 4 ships when they come out.
Anyone know of any good boxes that can hold the huge ships and maybe some of the smaller ones?
Huge Ship Storage
Two cheap suggestions:
1- The box it came in all thew way from China
2- A conspicuous shelf - just display it, dude!
Well, there are a few options - Battlefoam and Lasertouch just to name a few. The products from Lasertouch looks like the best from a layout perspective but they're based in AU so shipping is expensive. Battlefoam US have some new foams for the huge ships. I haven't seen any from KR Multicase.
I just use the box it came in.
I now use that box for my transport ship things like template, bases and rules.
I have a nice size bag that can carry all my things in one.
Had a lot of complements at yesterday tournament.
That looks extremely nice, but...a wee bit outta my price range. It is only storage, after all, and I can't really afford anything too extravagant. But man, that'd be nice...

I have a large size travel bag that I can manage to put everything in and still with plenty of room.
If you have a bag big enough just use that.
Save the money for more ships
I have a plano 1374 and can fit my vette and transport in the top bin... I have a soft game mat I lay them on, but you could just cut the insert from the box to fit.

Starting to get a bit cramped but I have...
5 x-wings
2 y-wings
2 falcons
5 a-wings
1 HWK
3 Bwings
6 tie
9 interceptors (can't remember)
2 firesprays
1 shuttle
4 advanced ties
2 bombers
That looks about perfect, and well-within my price range. You definitely have more than I do, so I should be able to fit everything. What about templates/tokens? Room for those? I guess the big concern with those is the range ruler.
Try a shoe box. I found some Faded Glory women's shoes at my local Wal-Mart on clearance for $5. My wife got a pair of shoes and I got a box that fits the CR90 perfectly. Its just wide enough and about a quarter-inch longer than the ship. A piece of spare foam to support the fore section and it works perfectly.
I just put the back in the plastic packaging they came in and sling them in a bag.
I repurposed a Plano Phantom Pro. In the top alone I keep two firesprays, a yt-1300, a shuttle, the transport, a Plano 3600, my 3x3 felt and all rule books. The ships are all in their original plastic shells. The drawers underneath currently hold 31 small ships and all dice, templates, cards, etc with half of the storage remaining. I see them available on EBay, and chuckle each time I loll at my original price tag still on the inside of the lid. ($34.99).

EVERYTHING fits... though getting to the point of having to be creative.
When my setup was smaller, had a rebel, imperial, game (tokens, movement, damage/upgrade cards) trays. Could literally hand a friend a tray and they could build and assemble their squad.
Range rules fits fine, though the vette one needs to be dismantled. Probably be better to only clip one so it can fold in half and when in use but 1/2 the plug in to keep it straight...
Here is a example of my Imperial tray... very cramped... I have a whole other tray for pegs, bases scenario cardboard.

THats what I did
Go to a shop that sells foam and then just use a craft knife to cut out the shape for yourself. That way you can put it into any size box you want and it costs far less than pick and pluck foam.

That's about how mine looks but with less ships. They're all pretty cramped up right now, but I love having individual cases for Rebel and Imperial ships. I don't know the model but the box I have has two detachable sections and then on the other side of the box is larger storage where I put cards and big ships and pretty much everything but tokens and templates, as they don't fit and I have another box for those.
This will probably be the one I get. Definitely looking forward to having fewer boxes to carry around. The transport already gets it's own box (a cheap pistol case, but it's pretty perfect) but having it all together will definitely be nice.
1 of each huge ship will fit in here .
Yes or you could use one of the 3 new
Battlefoam
specials:
The one downside of Battlefoam is that it's just foam; I'm also in need of a case for the foam to go in.
But, I'm glad everyone's posting all these suggestions. I'm surely not the only one who was looking for transport-transports
I'm torn between the nitty gritty details... It sucks that the corvette is like 13.5'' long, and slightly too large to fit in a standard sized piece of pluck foam. I'm either going to cut out the end and allow the hammerhead to stick out of the foam a bit, or i'll pay a bit extra and upgrade to 8.5'' x 15.5''.
Either way, I plan on using 2 trays of foam to store the corvette. I'm going to use 2 2'' pieces, and cut out the bottom of the top one, for 4.25'' of total depth for the transport, which will be stored on its side (4'' wide). Then I'll have 5'' of foam left on two trays... The bottom one will probably be for my two transports, while the top one will likely be for my rebel stuff. I can also have a 3rd 1.5'' piece of foam in my toolbox, so I might the imps with the top tray, and the rebels on the 1.5'' tray. Choices!
