Vessery's Guards

By Jagd, in X-Wing

So having won a Defender yesterday afternoon, last night of course I had to play around and create a new build for my Defender. So looking at both unique, I quickly realize that Vessery is superior than Brath, if you make the right build, that synergies well with him.

So in order to fully utilize his ability, you need to have other ships that do not have a higher pilot skill than him. So you need other pilot at PS6 or lower.

I went with a highly mobile build that incorporates a lot of knock out power with highly agile ships. So here it is:

- Vessery + Outmaneuver + HLC

- Royal Guard Pilot + PTL + Targeting Computer

- Royal Guard Pilot + PTL + Targeting Computer

Total: 99pts.

Having all 3 ships at PS6 is perfect! You can always move them in the order you want and Vessery will always shoot first so that the RGP red TL will still be on the defending ships. So that way you can always focus with Vessery and have always (if this built is flown right) an auto target lock every turn. That combined with the HLC+Outmaneuver and the RGP that focus and target lock too can bring a Falcon to it's knees really fast, and utterly destroy other Rebel ships in no time! An highly agile built, that can close the distance really fast and pack a lot of punch!

Another variation would be to change the HLC for an Ion canon + Shield upgrade or Engine upgrade

I was thinking of a really similar Defender list:

  • Vessery + Assault Missiles
  • Royal Guard + PtL + Targeting Comp + Hull Upgrade + RG Title
  • Royal Guard + PtL + Targeting Comp + Hull Upgrade + RG Title

The idea is that if Vessery and just one of the Royal Guards take a TL on the same enemy ship, Vessery can spend his TL to fire his Assault Missiles, roll dice, and immediately gain a new TL with which to reroll his dice.

Indeed it can be interesting, but for long term damage, the HLC with a TL and focus is much more devastating than a one time use missile.

Sure, but then I would argue that a live Interceptor is much more effective than a dead one.

I personaly believe that the best escort for Vessery is

Omicron Group Pilot + FCS + Weapon Engineer + ST 321 title (+Engine Upgrade if you want)

Take a Target Lock on any ship on the map and get a second one free. It raise the odds of Vessery having a target with a TL on him.

I though about this too and it can be quite interesting indeed, but for some reason the fact that the shuttle does not have a rear firing arc and no kturn just kills it for me. Once it pass the main battle area, it just takes forever to come back in the battle and that ship has no end game potential whatsoever...

I guess it is a matter of preference too. I simply love highly maneuverable ships!

Personally, I like Vessery and Bombers.

I like this idea, too. This can be tough in 100 point lists, but I foresee the Lambda being much more effective in Epic/Cinematic play when there are many more targets to choose from and Huge ships lumber slowly around the table.

The Shuttle take some time getting used to since it has a style of its own, but once you do, it's a very good ship. If I'm not mistaken, it would leaves you with 26pts if you really want to take a 45pts defender by giving it HLC and Outmaneuver. You could take a Saber Squadron+PtL+TL.

But my personal take is that there is too many point invested in the defender anyway. It's half your team. Realistically speaking, your enemy will want to get rid of it ASAP, so I don't think you'll get much use of Outmaneuver. You would be better serve with VI to get a better position or shoot earlier, or Adrenaline Rush to make a Red turn white once per battle. That would leave 28 pts. Maybe take Turr+Predator for some more maneuvrability

Vessery + HLC + VI

Turr Phennir + Predator

OGP + FCS + Weapon Engineer + ST-321

Very true, the Shuttle is a very good ship in Epic Play. The extended battlefield help too.

This is your second post in this thread that I feel like I could have written with no changes. I've been playing around with the Defender quite a bit, and for me Vessery + Adrenaline Rush is one of the most effective ways to put the ship on the table. The extra TL every turn opens up his action bar, and Adrenaline Rush opens the dial; at 36 points it's heavy competition for a Firespray.

As in higher ps opponents won't spend the focus on their attack?

That, plus your opponent is pushed heavily toward using focus or evade instead of an action he or she would rather use--so it cuts down on the effectiveness of a lot of upgrades and positioning tricks.

Uh, wrong thread. I think Nickotine and I are talking about Opportunist somewhere else...?

Yorr would be quite interesting with the Defender instead of the Omicron and he could eat the stress token of those 1 and 2 turn. Also make some interceptors Kturn white.

Tetran Cowell. Done it before with his 1-k, it was awesome.

Personally, I like Vessery and Bombers.

My bombers patiently await the Colonel's arrival.

Could you guys please post ideas on Vessery with bombers? I'm kinda curious what you got in mind.
