"The Incident" - Shadow of Nerekhall Question

By Carbini, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

OK quick question in case anyone has hit this quest, last shadows campaign my heroes didn't run it, but I'm in a new campaign as a hero this time and I'm thinking of picking it because the reward seems incredible.

I want to get quick clarification because I've read this page over about 5 times and don't know if I'm missing something. The reward says you get "25 gold per objective token" but the quest REQUIRES you to get all 4 anyway before the NPC can move off the map for victory. There also doesn't seem to be any mechanic where the monsters can remove these objectives.

The reason this stands out is that if this is the case, the reward should just say "get an additional 100 gold," as it says on the interlude quests. Not to mention 100 gold + 25 per hero seems crazy for an act one quest, especially when that's the same as the interlude reward. Just running a check on this one to see if I missed something, because if not, I'll roll this quest for a shot at 200g. :)

I don't think you're missing anything, no.

As for why the rewards are written that way, my guess would be that they chose to write it like that in case playtesting showed the number of objectives should be changed - and maybe they were. Or maybe there was an earlier version of the quest where Celia could choose to leave without getting all 4 objectives.

It doesn't hurt anything and it reduces the amount of text that needs to be re-edited if things change, thereby reducing the potential number of typos in the game.

Yea the text is fine for me, just seemed a bit strange. It probably is a "ready text" in case of a FAQ later that changes it (maybe get 3 and get out or something). I kept running through it for a condition where she could leave earlier, or that the monsters could smash the sites. The text still makes sense though, so off we go. :)

Edit: Oh duh... I just figured it out.... winning the quest is NOT a requirement for getting the "25 per objective token." So basically you get a mini-reward if you lose. I totally missed that.
