Winning Assualt at Imdaar Alpha (Rebels)

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

Today I won the event playing rebels in the final round. Here is the list I played in the final match.

Rookie Pilot (21)

Rookie Pilot (21)

Lieutenant Blount + Assault Missiles (22)

Etahn A'baht + Advanced Sensors (35)

Here was the Imperial list I faced for first place.

"Whisper" + Saboteur + Veteran Instincts + Advanced Cloaking Device (39)

Delta Squadron Pilot + Heavy Laser Cannon (37)

Omicron Group Pilot + Darth Vader (24)

The dice gods were in favor of me for the entire match as I never took a hit to any of the ships hulls. I came away with a great respect for Etahn A'baht. Here is what he does for those who may not have seen him.

"E-Wing,

When an enemy ship inside your firing arc at Range 1-3 is defending, the attacker may change 1 of its hit results to a crit result."

I scored so many crits with him in that squad. I personally dismissed the poor E-Wing while crafting new builds for wave 4. I'm now interested in starting the testing phase for the crit maker. Here is where I'd like to begin the list.

Etahn A'baht (32)

The idea here is just give Etahn as many guns to modifiy as possible. With only 5 points to play with here, there is just not a lot of breathing room.

Etahn is indeed a monster. He might even prove nastier with a bunch of Z95s.

Saboteur

Was your opponent drunk, or something?

Interesting, you can fit 5 Z's and still have 8 points to beef up Etahn. I just wonder if those two attack dice will get through enough to punish the ship you target. With more 3 evade ships entering the meta, these ships could pose a problem.

Actually saboteur is a smart choice as it allows you to damage certain ships while cloaked, which you can't do otherwise.

Having said that, the window of opportunity is very small as you both need a victim that already has damage cards and has to be range 1 to you, preferably not taking advantage of that close proximity and rolling more dice against you. For all of that, I would not have - and did not choose to - put that crew card on my final table Phantom.

It's not a smart choice, though: you spend 2 points up front, you have to be at Range 1, you have to spend your action (which comes with a high opportunity cost, given how hungry the Phantom's green dice can be for focus tokens), and if you do all those things you may be rewarded with a small benefit against a ship that's already damaged. I would honestly love to hear from the OP's final round opponent, because I'd really like to know what he or she thought was gained by spending those points that way.
