Developing List: Rebel Opportunity. PS 8,9,10.

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

i think this squad could be very good. its built around opportunist

Opportunist (4) When attacking, if the defender does not have any focus or evade tokens, you may receive 1 stress token to roll 1 additional attack die. You cannot use this ability if you have any stress tokens.

100pts

Wes Janson + VI (30)

Wedge Antilles + Opportunist + Hull Upgrade + R2 Astromech (37)

Luke Skywalker + Opportunist + R2 Astromech (33)

Wes at PS10 strips any defensive tokens from one target and Wedge + Luke hit that ship with 4 attack dice (5 at close range).

R2 Atromechs help them to recover stress without making their movement too predictable after they attack.

these are replaceable parts:

R2 astro on wedge

R2 astro on luke

hull upgrade on wedge

5pts. pretty tight. could go for Draw Their Fire on Luke with R2D2 instead. not sure. looks pretty balanced as it is.

thoughts?

It's not a bad idea. I'm always concerned about having only 3 small ships in a list though (but the ultra-high pilot skills alleviate that somewhat). I've been considering a couple of Opportunist lists myself, but they both count on the dial to relieve stress:

2x Saber + Opportunist

Dark Curse

Night Beast

Howlrunner

The 3 TIEs all shoot before the sabers, so I'm hoping that will strip tokens

and of course, post-Rebel Aces, the Chris Hansen All-Stars

2x Dagger + FCS

2x GSP + Chardraan + A-Wing Title + Opportunist + Predator

Again, Daggers shoot before GSP's, so either tokens get used defending against the Daggers, or the Daggers do more damage than they would have otherwise

I like the concept but I think basing your game plan around 1 fragile X-Wing with no protection (Wes) might be a recipe for disappointment and a wasted 8 points once he dies. If he gets dropped in the opening exchange (likely) it's almost game over.

Maybe a Wes, Biggs and a HLC Opportunist B-Wing?

Opportunist almost strikes me as an Epic focused upgrade or to compliment an Academy/A-Wing blocking style list (at the moment anyway!)

There's been a lot of good discussion over in this thread on this sort of list. They eventually came up with an especially nasty list:

PS 10: Wes Janson + Veteran Instincts (30)

PS 9: Wedge + Opportunist + R2 (36)

PS 7: Keyan Farlander + Opportunist + Advanced Sensors (34)

That is downright terrifying. Basically swapping out Luke for Keyan exactly, to get even more damage. Keyan should be rolling 5 dice with TL + F on almost every turn, even if he K-turns! . That should still be better than Wedge's (range 1) 5 dice with focus and -1 agility on the defender.

Edit: he can't use Opportunist if he K-turns, since Opportunist triggers before Keyan's ability text, and he will still have stress.

Luke Skywalker + R2-D2 + Opportunist (36)

Wes Janson + Veteran Instincts (30)

Wedge Antilles + R2 Astromech + Opportunist (34)

For anyone looking to play the 3X Oppotunist builds start here. I'm now sitting at a tournament record of 23-2 with this build, with only one of those loses coming in the Swiss rounds. Try this build out first on the table before changing anything. Learn what the squad does well and does not do well. If you can find a way to improve what the squad does not do well without hurting what it does do well, go for it. Please, put it on the table first.

its wedge that is the biggest threat in this list. without wes he is still going to be a thorny ship to deal with.

in this list i think u could hold wes at long range if u were worried he was going to get taken out too soon.

he can still take 5 damage, thats 3 more than howlrunner and how many list rely on her?

ur critique is noted. i just fee l that all 3 ships are threats and even without wes wedge+luke r still very powerful. u would need to be cautious about taking the enemy on head on depending on what list they were running.

here is a similar list that uses Ibtisam instead of Luke...
