Anyone ever do tournament while sick?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Really not too happy right now.

Been looking forward to this since it was announced

Still plan on attending tomorrow, but feel I'll be at a disadvantage. 2 hour drive to get there. My Head probably won't be 100% clear.

I'm sure I'm not alone on this. Anyone else ever play while sick at a tournament?

How well did you do?

If it is anything contagious, you really should not attend.

take something to help, drink water and do your best. Just take your time while you are moving and things should come naturally. Also don't sweat about the event, your driving 2 hours to play x-wing not 2 hours to have a bad time.

whear a full on bio suit to psyc out your opponent!!! and contain your germs!!! lol

Never sick, but I've played a number of 2-day events where I'm seriously hung over on day 2. That's kinda the same...

Listen a 15 dollar ship is not worth it.

First drink water, no soda or juice. The sugar makes you sicker longer.

Second go to bed

Third be kind to the other players because no one wants to be that guy who makes everyone sick.

Fourth my wife and I stop taking drugs for colds and let our bodies build a tolerance to germs now if I get a cold it's only a 2-3 day thing not a week.

Last find a good chiropractor, the one I see has been to school for 10 years and is a Doctor of chiropractics, regular adjustments are a sickness fighting thing.

Also if you play video games redbox watch dogs this weekend. It's much better then getting sicker and making others around you sick.

Your health is always more important then a game. If you have a gaming group you play with just have anyone pitch in for a torny when your well. Good chances wave 4 ships will be out for sale in 1-3 weeks. Do a super indeer Tourny then with all the new ships for everyone with a 1 ship pot.

Also play Vassel for PC is such a great way to meet people online I know it's not the same but it's better. Also you live 2 hours there is nothing worse then being 2 hours from your bed. Call the store or check their Facebook page and see if you can org a Tourny in a couple of weeks. I am sure if you work with the store and there is a buy in for a ships it would totally work. I personally will talk with my group and store to see if in July we could do a 4 ship prize with a 10 buy in. That would be much better then tomorrow.

watchdogs.... got to finish wolfenstein first!!!!!

That's just it right there to.

No gaming group

Just me and 2 friends

Have to drive out of province to attend tournaments.

Plus it's not just me going. Others are depending for my ride. My car is newer and in better shape than theirs.

It's not like I'm sick as a dog right now, but all day I have that feeling in my sinus that you get when you know "oh crap" and I believe it getting worse :(

Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow or maybe the same. Hopefully not worse. My 3 year old has been sick this week so I've been taking ginseng trying to boost the immune system.

One thing I know I won't do is handle anyone ships but my own. Wash my hands in between games.

I packed a lunch and plan on having water and some medication with me. Unfortunately I know you shouldn't but I do need coffee for the morning and drive (leave my place around 7an,game starts noon)

Well if I lose I'll have an excuse, but I intend on winning all my games

Here is the engi for this and if you look around you can find lot of people that play this. In fact Mr Froggie hosted a 132 person Tourny online I know you can find a player or two.

Well drink water and some niqull get offline and get some sleep tonight.

If you have to go to your game, I would, then be nice and wear on of those masks the doctors use. It would make everyone a little bit more at ease.

Funny your say that.

My wife is from Japan, and they are very common to see.

You see lots of people walking around with those surgical masks lol.

Sadly though people here,or so it seems to me, don't understand that, and either get freaked out about it, or try to insult. (I don't care about insult cause I just tell people f off and Walk away) but is think maybe they feel uncomfortable lol.

Maybe that's a good strategy... Jk :)

being sick and loosing isn't an excuse ;) I think it's a cop out!!

That why I intend on winning all my games.

Please wear a mask for the comfort and safety of those around you. Good luck in the tournament.

Ya, my wife said she had some.

I have to ask because I never see it done here in Canada, but do you see people where masks in North America?

Actually is something I've never seen, but since being too Japan a few times, I've wondered why not?

Whenever I say anything to people here about it, I get some pretty ignorant remarks. Almost punch one guy in the nose one day at work lol

I've only seen it done in and around hospitals, but if you want to keep whatever it is you have to yourself, it seems like the best way to go.

If your sick, your sick. It's one of those things that happens. Even if others are depending on you for a ride, it is still a game that is completely okay to miss if you are sick.

Wear a Darth Vader Helmet! People will assume you are cos-playing and you'll contain your germs as well! :)

If it is anything contagious, you really should not attend.

As painful as it may be to you this is actually the best advice. If more people would heed this suggestion and avoid putting others at risk the entire world would be a healthier place.

Isn't this how epidemics get going? One person is feeling a little "under the weather" but doesn't let it stop him so he goes out and spreads what he has to others who then pass it on as well. If only patient zero had stayed put things would have been a lot better for everyone else.

It does suck being sick to miss fun things like this event. I have attempted to play in tournaments sick and I regret ever wasting my time. Your already prone to tilt and one bad lose and full tilt is on. Just remember it's not 2 hours of driving its 4! A 2 hour drive home after a long day of mental taxes while sick is just not a good idea.

Yes I did, some years ago. Not X-Wing, obviously. A single game of chess. It was either me playing with heavy fever or the team was a player short.

How well did you do?

My opponent blundered during the opening. So it was a quick and easy win.

Stay home. Respect your oppenents enough not to spread your sickness to them.

It's not common in the US. It's usually considered bad form because you are basically saying "I know I am sick and I am contagious, but I only care enough to put this cheap mask on. You might get sick being near me, but that's not my problem."

I'd have a hard time playing someone knowing full well they are sick. I have kids and if you get me sick, I'll get them sick and I'll have to take off from work. That's not cool.

Please stay home if you know you're sick.
