Only if I TO the tournament do I pass the prize around me. Others wise they are mine!
I really dislike it when people travel to multiple events. Give people in the local area a chance to win those ships, don't hoard them all for yourself.
People around here have been lobbying the stores to hold events at times that don't overlap so people can do what they need to do to hoard ships. It's actually turned me off on this game a bit, which breaks my heart.

Why? It's not my fault that FFG is letting multiple stores in the same area host Imdaar events and, if they do, I'm damned sure going to go to as many as possible.
Define area. I think one game per city is reasonable, but I dislike it when people travel to different cities to take part in multiple games just so they can have all 4 ships. Stick to your local and that's it I think, let others have a chance to play and win. The X-Wing group at my local are a little annoyed that people we've never met before (and after the event will never see again) are coming to our store just to play Imdar Alpha to win another ship.
I'm going to two, and if I get the choice I'll take two Z-95's. I will want extras of those and they seem to be the least desired according to other threads. So yeah, going to keep. Especially considering you're paying an entry fee to each event anyway.

I live in Independence, MO which literally connects to Kansas City MO. We had an event Friday in Independence and one Saturday and one Sunday in Kansas City. Most everyone in Kansas City and surrounding areas (Independence, Blue springs, Gladstone, Lee summit) all play against each other.
Is it so worng for us to go to different events in our area?
if i win it i keep it, because i earned it.
you want a ship? out play your opponent.
I came so close last night to winning one, when it came down to round 4 but my A-wing couldn't deal the last 3 damage to his firespray before time. If i had won, i would of take 4th place.
Did it suck to not get a ship? YES, but i had a blast competing for the chance to get one. And today I'm taking a 2nd crack at getting one. At the very least i'm sure i'll get a 2nd bandit squad card :- P

I'm sure store owners would disagree with you.
Guaranteed $10 sale (admission), soda and snack sales, possible REAL sales (I know one of the Assault players last night bought a starter set...probably b/c he left his stix or damage deck at home or something.
Like it or not....ships are a reward for stomping face. This isn't the public school system where everyone gets a trophy for participating. It's called real competition, it's real life, if you can't win a ship by yourself...without the help or pity of others, wait for the release.
Sorry, but the entitlement doesn't sit well with me.
I'm hitting a second one on Sunday, planning on getting the E-Wing or Z-95 (assuming I place low that should be the final ship picked if last nights order of picking is any clue)
If I could get away today I'd be travelling up north to Richmond to hit a third....and yes, I'm keeping each ship.
MINE!

Ok, define "local area" please. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have 3 different stores within a half hour drive of my house that are all in different cities and are hosting Imdaar events on 3 different dates so people can attend as many as the can/want. Should I just ignore the others just because you're upset about it? I don't think so. Oh, and if you and your group are upset that people are coming in to your store and beating the locals, then you should up your game and try to stop them or, if possible, travel to their place of play and return the favor.
Edited by zathras23Hey, that is my opinion and my opinion. I didn't say my opinion was better, more right or whatever. As for them beating us, they haven't beaten us yet. If you win one, good for you, if you are intentionally hoarding won ships. Then I got an issue.
Honestly, I'd probably just pass it off to the next guy down, or give it to someone who took dead last if they were a younger kid/seemed very sporting about it. I don't need incentive to do the right thing, I'm an Eagle Scout. It's who I am.

That is awesome!
I would like to think I would do the same thing, but the reality is, I know I probably would not. I've seen others do that at Heroscape tournaments, and I applaud that, but as someone who doesn't win these events, I know any swag I walk away with is mine.
I do respect those that do as That One Guy , though.
Edited by rym"Hoarding" ships....LOL!
So absurd.
No, I call it the novelty of getting a miniature a month or two before it's release (and legality in tourney play) at a cost 5 dollars cheaper than buying in the store OR for the SAME price you get it on miniature market.
....and that's all it is, novelty. If you are jealous that people are "hoarding" them (whatever the heck that means...these are plastic toys with little to no real value) you are the one with the problem indeed.
Get over it...it's happening...EVERYWHERE.
Some take it a bit too far.
I am attending two events but should I make it to first place (at the second event), I think that I'll let my opponent choose first.
My whole point is that this is about TOYS.
How can you take something too far when that thing is essentially meaningless?
On the other hand...people are getting mad that others are "taking all they toys for themselves so they cannot have any"? 2nd grade much? That complaint is entitlement plain and simple.
These figs are coming out in just a couple months for EVERYONE to enjoy. Complaints about what amounts to a 5 dollar discount for a few people is about as petty as you can get.
I mean really, how jealous are you of that friend of yours that got an A-Wing and an Interceptor at the Wave 2 events? Are you still pining about that? (not asking anyone in particular...just asking a hypothetical person to make a point)

Honor is hard to come by when you're competing for plastic space ships that you will get 4 weeks before you can buy them.
I wish there were more players like you. That's such a cool thing to do, it makes me rethink things. Perhaps I should consider doing the same in the future...

follow up
got an E-wing today
First off, props to the TO for organizing the AoIA event I went to. However, the crowd really ruined the event for me. Apparently most had gone to the 3 events held prior in my area and were "star wars'd out". So first thing they did was ask the TO to cut the matches to 3. I kinda came to play star wars... and now I'm ripped off a game. Oh well, have fun, and fly casual, right? First game was a modified win for me. Was great considering it was my first tournament match, AND first time against a live TIE swarm. Second round I botched badly and lost quite handily. Third I won with only 50% losses. Well turns out MOST players got 2-1 as well so due to all the tie breaking shenanigans, I didn't make top 4. Dang, but oh well, I didn't come to win, came to have a good time. Then after final 4 are announced, they all back out of the game, 2nd place telling first he wins and 4th place telling 3rd he wins. 1st place grabs the Z-95 to round out his last ship so he has them all now (!!!), 2nd place said he wanted the Phantom and nothing more. 3rd place grabbed the Defender and said it also rounded out his 4, and the guy stuck with the E-wing complained it was his 3rd one and he didn't even want them.
Now, again, I stress I went for fun, but losing my 4th match and what could have been a match that boosted me into the finals was tough, then watching everyone pack up simply because "we want to go home!" was pretty hard to watch. Oh well, if they can consistently make the finals like that, all the props to them right?

I'm sorry that absolutely sucks. That was an incredible display of poor sportsmanship by the players in that event. If they did not have to intention of playing through the full event, then they ought not have entered. Plain and simple.
Additionally that is absolutely piss poor event management by the TO/venue. Under no circumstances should you be cutting an event short purposefully. Additionally if players did not want to play the final round then the TO should have withdrawn them from the event and put players there willing to actually play in the event.
Both players and venue failed in one of the main reasons to hold these kind of events, to build a community.
I didn't see any Wave 4 ships get played in the two events I went to. First event was apparently FFG's fault. The prize support was not sent to the venue in time, so they had no ships to play with for the final round. They offered to let the top two do make-up round, but they had driven four hours to get to the venue and were understandably not able to do that.
Second event, one player was competing in his fifth event, and it was late. First place and and second place wanted different ships, so they agreed to pass on playing it out.
I did alright by myself. Got a $10 store credit from the first event (turned into a second B-Wing) and took third at the second event to pick up a Phantom (the ship I wanted most). I will be using the heck out of that.

Man, I feel for you on that.
I kinda wish FFG would pick one day - and one day only - for something like this, where unreleased product is on the line as prizes. * It would certainly curb those types of shenanigans and behaviors, and, I think, make for a better overall experience and community. One guy with 3 or 4 ships coming to play at the next FLGS game night, versus 3 or 4 guys coming to play with one new ship each? Seems like the second option has the potential to further this great community.
That being said, I don't know how you really fix the problem. We all played these events because we all wanted these ships. Some are just really luckier than others I suppose...
Fly casual and fly on. Just know we can see you since you can't Cloak.
* In my area, one store purposely switched their event to the next day so as not to coincide with a much bigger store running AOIA at the same time. I get it, from a drawing-more-customers-in perspective, but as a dude wanting to win one of these ships, the smaller venue meant I might 've had a greater chance.
I'm playing in 2 events, won a defender in first one but as already got the preorders I wanted done I'm trading with a friend for the one I won. Then if I do well again this weekend I will probably do the same again or see results and who's in 5th place and make sure to have a "which is your favourite" type conversation with them and offer a trade afterwards. Or maybe just hand it over if I'm feeling nice!
pfft, no, I'll keep any ships I win. I paid for them, anyway, through my entry fee.
To follow-up, I won a TIE Defender on Friday and an E-Wing on Sunday. Kept both of them.
