For those going to multiple Imdaar's...

By markcsoul, in X-Wing

If you're fortunate enough to place in the top 4 at more than one store, would you enjoy getting multiple wave 4 ships for free, or share the wealth and pass any extra ships won on to someone else, maybe the 5th place person?

I know when the news first came out about these, the store I play at (which also has a sister store) was considering giving store credit or some other prize to anyone who finishes in the top 4 at both stores, to give more people an opportunity to get the new ships which I think is a great idea if they stick with it.

Sounds reasonable. I'm only going to one, but I'd like to think that if I won twice, I would accept store credit towards my wave 4 purchases.

I'm going to 2. If I win at the first one, I'm going to fly a squad with 2 generic TIE Advances in it for the second one. If I win at the second one with that list, I might just feel as if I earned that second ship.

In all seriousness, even then I probably won't accept the second ship.

Are taking suggestions for this second list? :-p

I figure Jonus + Squad Leader + Seismic

Tempest + Cluster x2

Academy x2

If I get 2, ill keep both :P

Personal cost savings effort! Haha.

Yeah, I'm going to 4, and I'll definitely keep any I win.

I'd put Vader in there, because he's cool.

Darth Vader (29)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Tempest Squadron Pilot (21)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Captain Jonus (22)

Squad Leader (2)

This let's you send off an alpha strike of 2 Cluster missiles with Focus at PS9!

And leaves you with 16 points to spend... An Academy Pilot for blocking and Engine Upgrade to make Vader a super-maneuverable closer ?

Congratulations if you manage to win with this squad!

Seriously, though it could perform decently if you don't roll atrociously on the alpha strike... Four 3-dice attacks with 2 re-rolls and focus for 2 of them (potentially 12 hits) should be enough to get Howlrunner off the board vs a swarm, or lay some pretty serious hurt on an expensive Falcon. And you've got Vader as a closer.

pfft, no, I'll keep any ships I win. I paid for them, anyway, through my entry fee.

The one I'm going to tonight has no entry fee

I'm planning on going to 2, and running one of them! And the only Organizer incentive is one of the Z-95 cards that I'll be getting anyway (if my luck isn't that terrible)?

But! I'm happy placing in the top four, I don't need first pick. I'd be happy owning any of these expansions. My first choices are the Defender and Phantom, but the Z-95 would make it the 4th one in inventory and I have no E-Wings on preorder. So it works out, as long as I place well enough :)

Agreed. At first I thought I really wanted the Z-95 above the others ( I know, I know - but mainly because they are so cheap points-wise and I would need more than the typical 4 I would usually order to complete a swarm), but now, I think I'll just decide which ship I want in the moment, if I get that fortunate.

Either way, it's gonna be fun and I am really excited! :D

I do not see this thread going well...

@markcsoul - where do you live?

I live in Winnipeg, and there are 4 events scheduled here. I'm hoping to make it to 2 of them for sure..

I'll be going to two, and likely keeping both ships if I place. I don't think it'll be an issue though, I've only played 2-3 100 point games and no tournaments. ;)

I'd debate passing the ships down, depending on the events, but I'm going to a weekend long gaming shindig in a couple of weeks, and teaching 3 other folks how to play x-wing. They seem keen on an epic team game, and if I can nab one or both Imperial ships it'd make fielding that solo much easier.

Both venues I'm going to have entry fees of $10, if I recall (one includes a free pop). As that's basically the cost of a ship online, I would take my prize with zero guilt.

Edit: correction. The first venue only charges $5, but there's no guarantees I'll win two. Especially since my 2nd venue is my regular one, and those guys are brutal.

I think the truth of the situation doesn't/won't match the reality of what some people are saying for this weekend's events. I know lots of people are saying they'd only take one ship if they were lucky enough to score more than one, or they'd pass one on to others, but I think most people would keep them (myself included) if they won more than one event, or placed well enough to make Top 4. Why else would we see people signing up for multiple events? Camaraderie? Sure. Fellowship with fellow gamers? Absolutely. To win one (or more) unreleased Wave 4 ships? No doubt about it.

Let's not kid ourselves. We all LOVE this game. It's why we play and frequent these forums looking for that diamond in the rough idea for a list no one else will think of or run so that we can stomp the competition. Yes, at the the end of the day, it is about fly casual and have fun, and the experience of the tournament scene, but it's also about getting out grubby little hands on the newest ships that no one else will have - yet. :D

And on the off chance that it truly isn't about winning multiple ships at multiple events, why else would a good chunk of us feel the need to post our ship inventory in our sig liines? :P

We have 5 events in Utah but it is only possible to attend 4 as one is in the middle of two Saturday events. I know one of the guys here is attending all 4 he can attend.

One store has a $10 entry OR you can buy a ship and count that as your entry. Figure it works out pretty well as $10 is the online price which makes my entry only $5 right? :D

Good points all!

Though actually my primary reason for signing up for two is just to get some games in! As I mentioned, I've only played two 100 point games so far. My work schedule is atrocious for gaming (5PM to Midnight on weeknights) so my X-Wing play took a big hit. Well, I had actually basically just bought in when I started the job, so maybe "a big hit" isn't quite accurate. That point should come across though!

I'd love to get the new ships, the TIE Defender is basically my favorite ship ever, and I love the idea of the E-Wing. Heck, even the Z95 would let me try some crazy squad ideas I've got.

I don't think anyone is suggesting you just GIVE your prize away, effetcively handing over a $15 ship - but rather if you could defer the EARLY access to the 2nd ship by allowing someone else to get it in exchange for store credit.

I suppose a better question is : Would you sell someone your 2nd ship if you won two tourney's , so they could also get an early experience with wave 4?

I'm more likely to give it away/trade it for something extra then sell it, myself.

Lucky you, I don't have any of this event in my city, greettings

No, let's be honest, most of these will probably end up on eBay.

Seeing as my local store has decided to go with a $15 entry fee, nope. If I'm paying over what I'd be paying for it online, it's tooth and nail time.

After one event I'm already ahead of the game. Paid $10 and came in 2nd at the Friday event I attended. Got the E-Wing and also a B-Wing and Bomber with the $30 in store credit I got for the 2nd place finish. So, if I don't get another ship this weekend, I won't feel bad at all. If I do? We'll cross that bridge when I get there.
