Shuttles vs. Bombers; list from you guys

By EmpireErik, in X-Wing

For tomorrows tournament I am looking at two lists. Most of the ideas came from you guys. However, I could use some advice as to how they have done. I played teh 5x bombers and they did well. I do expect to go up against 2x falcon lists and ALOT of BBXX or BXY based lists.

Bombers:

5x Gammas + Seismic

Shuttles:

2x OGP + FCS + Guner + Merc Copilot + EU

1x OGP + saboteur + Darth V + EU

back-up list is:

Howl + ST

Backstabber + EU (as a flanker)

4x Blk Sqd +VI

If I play the shuttle list, I will have to go shopping.

I am think of using the shuttles to corral the opponent, keep two or thee OGPs faceing a kill zone and then let DV and Saboteur take the wounded out.

Any help/insite or mods is appreciated.

If you like the 5xGammas...

Try:

Bounty Hunter + Gunner + Seismic Charge

Gamma + Seismic Charge

Gamma + Seismic Charge

Gamma + Seismic Charge

Adds some ship variety to the list and keeps the multiple bomb scare tactic! Though, the big ship makes it fly a bit differently.

Have you tried a 3 or 4 shuttle list before?

It takes practice to fly well. Lot's of practice.

Howl + ST

Is that Swarm Tactics on Howlie? I guess I'm really wondering how much benefit spending two points there is when you'd just be pushing a PS 6 up to PS 8 for shooting. Part of me is also looking at Backstabber w/ EU and saying "why not just use an Interceptor so I get 3 dice all the time?" For a couple points more than that Stabber you can go with a Royal Guard Pilot or a Saber Pilot + Determination.

As for the main lists I think I'd prefer the variation using a Bounty Hunter in place of a couple Bombers.

Thanks for catching the points waste. I have not really played with the Interceptors much. With Howl, I always put Swarm T on her and had alot of points left over so I added VI to the BS ties and forgot to reevaluate Howl.

I did very well with te following,

1 shuttle

3 ties

1 interceptor

It's a good balance.

2 shuttles with ion (48)

1 Royal guard (22)

2 black ties (28)

Also I was thinking about this tomorrow and it might be more your speed,

Jonus

2-Scim with cluster and flech

1-shuttle with HLC

You can alpha strike the trash out of everything and the shuttle is nasty with HLC Jouns reroll. I did 10 damage to Han on the openning turn of firing, in my practice session.

I know when I see an Engine Upgrade on a TIE Fighter I cringe a little bit. I mean if you look at spending 16 for an Academy + EU and then compare it to the 18 points an Alpha cost that Interceptor may cost a couple more points but I'm also getting +1 Attack which is a significant upgrade and getting a slightly better dial in the process. In many ways adding an EU to a TIE Fighter makes it into an Interceptor with a weaker attack.

Putting in an Avenger instead of Backstabber+EU cost a few points of PS which could be huge but gets you that +1 attack all the time.

I have played against every kind of rebel list you can think of because my mortal enemy in x-wing ( my brother -in-law) doesn't like the empire ships. If you think you will be facing a lot of rebel lists with 1 agi ships then you need some interceptors with Howlrunner. Three attack dice with reroll and focus will drop a 1 agi ship in no time. I love to run this list:

Howlrunner w/ PTL

Saber squad int w/ PTL

Alpha squad int

3x academy pilots

This gives you two three dice ships with reroll and 3 blocking ships. If you play it right you keep howl and the int's at the rear of your swarm because 3 dice still hit very well at range 3 with Howl. This usually allows your academies to get into range because your opponent will want to kill howl or the int's. He can't afford to ignore them so he is likely to take poor shots against them. PTL allows even worse shots for you opponent. I call it rock and a hard place, no matter who he shoots at he gives your swarm good options.
