BREAKING LIST: The Jonus Brothers

By Gather, in X-Wing

At the 11th hour of Imdaar Alpha, the perfect list! Oh wait, you can't use this list at Imdaar. Oh well, I'll torture you with it anyway....

**********************************************************

THE JONUS BOTHERS

**********************************************************

Tie Defender - Delta (30)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Tie Defender - Delta (30)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Jonus (22)

Squad Leader (2) **

Seismic Charge (2) **

**those last 4 points can be changed to taste

I always wanted to do something similar with 2 firesprays, but there wasn't enough points, and honestly the firespray is a pretty poor HLC platform. I think the Defender is the current best HLC platform on the imperial side. What do you think?

I think it could be interesting. Here is my idea for the heavy laser cannon. Looks good on paper but I don't know how well it will do in a trial by fire.

I'd almost be tempted to throw a concussion missile or torp on Jonus for a really deadly alpha stike. To bad you can't throw two bombs on him. I feel that SL might be kind of a waste as the Jonus re-rolls for the HLC should be enough of an offensive boost. You leave Jonus rolling two un-aided die. Decoy could be good here w/ Fletchette. Hull upgrade and determination could make him even more tanky.

The shuttle is a decent HLC carrier, but even with the movement upgrades, after the first pass, I feel it's hard to maintain a consistent distance to make it worth it. That's a good combo with Vessery and the ST-321 though.

Yeah, those two upgrades are kind of "Salt to taste", but squad leader does have a good use. At far range I want my defenders to be Barrel Rolling backward to maintain distance. I can then have Jonus give out an extra "focus" to an HLC barrel roller. Up close (range 1) I can have Jonus give out his action to a defender to make better use of it (TL + Focus).

I like the idea of a concussion missile for a good initial punch. Decoy or Swarm Tactics could be a good bonus.

I think I'd rather make Jonus naked and put those 4 points toward upping the TIE Defenders to PS3. Then they'll shoot before quite a lot of generic ships, which is probably more useful than Squad Leader and a bomb.

I thought of this the other day.

I decided on Swarm Tactics + Seismic Charge on Jonus.

I think having one Defender shoot at PS6 is more useful than two at PS 3. Also lets jonus have a toy and not be completely boring to fly!

Also, just adding 1 Defender with HLC to a list even without Jonus is quite powerful. The Defender gets a LOT of shots with the HLC, almost always with actions.

Or throw Decoy on Jonus, his PS isn't the important part in this list and you'll keep the Defenders at range 1 anyway.

That way, you can shoot before a whole lot more ships, with whatever Defender is in the best position.

That's a good use for those points also.

While Swarm Tactics copies your PS and Decoy swaps it, Decoy does work at range 2 whichmight come in handy if you find yourself k-turning out of range 1, it's just a little bit more flexibility to let the Defenders off the leash.

I'll be honest... I'd rather run three Dagger Squadrons with HLC and Fire Control system instead of this. Although the sheer mobility of this list is actually very good in comparison, the drop of pilot skill (aside from Jonus) in exchange for some extra rerolling seems insufficient for the lower attack power overall and loss of shields.

That said, the boost to speed and more agility dice could really be worth it... the only problem is Jonus in his more vulnerable ship.

Call me crazy, but I almost prefer the defenders to be at PS 1. When things get close and personal, as it almost always does, I want them to move first, get their actions and block, shooting their back-lines, then K-turn the following turn. Blocking also prevents the enemy from bringing their full force against one of them. It would be nice for them to shoot first, but they are tanky enough to survive and return fire.

Of the three I also want Jonus to be the first one to die. If you waste all of your shots on him, you still have 2 full-strength defenders to take care of.

Jonus works best with homing missiles, IMO if the points are there. Allows him to use the TL for a Reroll, but I'd probably go with bombs and something else...Swarm probably.

It's a devastating list... Because when you win you can gloat to your opponent that they got beat by the Jonus brothers...

The double whammy!

Ouch, it not only wins the game, but the meta game, by shaming your opponent.
