Tantive IV attacks?

By efiend, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I played in an epic game last night as empire. My opponent had a Tantive IV. Other than being near impossible to destroy it was not doing much. He was not shooting that much at all. When I read the news section on FF's site it mentioned the ship could actually get four attacks / round. Can someone fill me in as to how?

I wanted to buy one, but I am on the fence. It just did not impress me at all.

It had 3 Hard points that can equip weapons.

Two in the front section one in the back

Not counting is primary, which equals 4

I tore apart my buddies tie fighters with it once I got in closer with it.

Thing really turned the tide

You need to equip the secondary weapons. You can have 2 in the Fore section and 1 in the aft. With sufficient power you could fire all of them in a given turn.

By the time I was within range I had all 3 secondary weapons charged and a couple energy left over to use on offensive abilities

So the energy use allows it to fire it's primary along with the secondaries?

He was thinking you can only make one attack/ round. and since the lasers have Attack (energy) he thought it was the only attack he could make.

Yeah, all the replies missed the actual key rules difference you were looking for :D

Huge ships can attack with the primary weapon AND each secondary weapon - they don't make a choice of one the way normal ships do. So primary + 3 hardpoints = 4 attacks.

Thanks everyone. That helps. The Tantive is back on my get list.

Obviously he didn't read the rules clearly

CR90 Attacks

During the Combat phase, the CR90 may perform one attack with it's primary weapon and may perform one attack with each of its secondary weapons. The CR90 must finish one attack before it begins another.

Yes, it helps to actually read the rules. For myself the shading on the firing arcs is so subtle I had trouble figuring out what can shoot where at first glance, it seems the front secondarys can't fire forward only ~90° arcs to the side and aft section arcs are two ~90° side arcs also. So even if you had the energy the rear has a ~90° blind spot, from secondary weapons anyway. Rather ridiculous that they didn't put examples in the rule-book, they must love doing FAQs.

The aft blind spot affects the primary weapon too.

from page 5:

"When the CR90 targets a ship outside the CR90's firing arc, measure a line from the exact center of the chosen ship's base to the exact center of the CR90's fore section base. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the CR90's ship token, the CR 90 can declare the chosen ship as the defender."

I forgot about the blue line while I was typing, so it's even more limited.

But my turret refit fixes that:

The turret and sensor array are so close in size, it's such a shame they didn't match them so they would be interchangeable. I may shave off that millimeter of plastic.
