The Great Debate #35: Cursed Sphere vs. Yithian Rifle

Although Cursed Sphere is cheaper, one handed, and is essentially a Shrivelling non-spellcasters can use and even with stamina (although it's only for one check) the Rifle is a more solid weapon. So I choose the Yithian Rifle. What do you think?

I've never been upset to get the Cursed Sphere. Of course, now that final combat is much more dangerous, it's more important to hold on to that sanity and stamina. But having a better Shrivelling is always, always welcome.

Actually, for spellcasters Shrivelling is better, as it lasts the entire combat. Unless, ofcours, we're talking about the final battle.

On the other hand, even a spellcaster might fail his spell check. Cursed Sphere never fails.

I don't have Kingsport, and have never seen Yithian Rifle in action (or the Epic Battle cards, for that matter). That said, if Epic Battle is so dangerous, wouldn't it be good to get it over with faster? Cursed Sphere is but one-handed, and can accompany another weapon to get the whole thing done with and behind you. For better or for worse, I suppose.

In other news, Cursed Sphere is still good for spellcasters, both for the certainty, and because it allows them to use stamina, if they would prefer. This is of particular importance to high stamina "spellcasters" - Diana, Dexter and Vincent come to mind.

All told, I'm pretty sure I'd pick that.

The Yithian Rifle is "easier" to use. A one-round Sword of Glory should be all one needs to finish a fight, and everyone has a turn or two during which they can afford to not move their sliders. That said, I prefer the one-handed utility of the Cursed Sphere, and a minor loss of Stam/San for +6 without a Spell Check is awesome.

Yeah, I still think Cursed Sphere is better than Shrivelling. Nevermind the fact that Shrivelling can be used multiple rounds: the idea was probably that you were going to kill the monster on the first hit.

And if it's final battle, "multiple rounds" is meaningless, so Shrivelling is worse hands-down (unless you can reduce sanity costs from spells. That would be different).
