Twin Firesprays For a First Timer

By Teh HOBO, in X-Wing

So I'll be going to my first tournament on saturday and was looking to take a twin firespray force as I'm not all that great at formation flying(though I do love a 4 bomber list flechette+assault is sweet), how does this look:

Krassis

Heavy Laser Cannon

Seismic

Merc Copilot (Rebel Captive better here?)

Kath

Seismic

Expert handling

Engine Upgrade

Rebel Captive

Slave 1

Flechette Torps

The idea is either you focus on Krassis and Kath gets behind you or you focus on Kath and Krassis snipes with merc copilot giving him a crit on the HLC. <shrug> I dunno what you guys think, I could still go with Scimitar Squadron.

I've never gotten around to flying twin firesprays. I feel that they are pretty tough to use, as a smart opponent will just focus on one and burn it down, and a single firespray really isnt that hard for a squad to kill.

General consensus is that 2 firesprays need a 3rd ship to help. I love using an interceptor for this, cos I love interceptors and firesprays :D

I ran:
bounty hunter

bounty hunter

turr, ptl, hull upgrade, royal guard title, stealth device in a few tournaments, and I love it, thought I wish I could fit in some seismic charges.

As a first timer, I ran a twin FS list for my first game as Imperial. They're fun! I think people should keep in mind when building lists how enjoyable they'll be to play against.

As a newbie, I found the Heavy Laser Cannon didn't pull its weight. Great on paper, but it's hard to line up a shot with those big ol firesprays. I know veterans have had success with 'em, so I guess its an experience thing, but I found myself neglecting the firesprays greatest (arguably) strength, the rear-arc. It frees up so many manouverability options when you allow yourself to take advantage of that gun-in-your-butt.

Some great advice I had was: 2 Bounty Hunters w/Gunner, 2 academy ties. Really gets you used to the FS's. Yeah, no sexy named pilots, but it's a great way to get used to the ship and there's a fair amount of firepower in that list.

A single is usually enough of an anchor or endgame demon. Outside of Krassi and the odd IonSpray, you should be shooting out your rear a lot more. A LOT more. If they chase, use movement shenanigans and speed while setting up shots with the rest of your ships. If they dont't, tear em up in the endgame.

I often fly straight at my opponent only to hard turn away the round of engagement. If they guess wrong most ships have no shot, but you do. Great time to bomb drop too. If they do guess correctly, again, you have a shot and your other ships have thier backside.

Kath, Marksmanship, Gunner, EU

Boba, PTL, Recon Specialist, EU, Slave 1 Title (hah)

Or PTL on Kath as well.
