How to operate ship weapons ??

By koblih123, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I read the topic about this, but I'm still not sure how to do this thing.

Example, I have a Firespray patrol, which has got 2 Forward Mounted Auto-Blasters

and I want to shoot. I'm only one on board. So if I don't have linked quality I can shoot only with one Auto-Blaster or not?? Because if I can't the second Auto-Blaster is useless. I didn't see that the Boba Fett must help to his father Jango Fett with shooting both of Blasters......

In game terms, the ship has only one weapon system using the Auto-Blasters. They count together as one weapon (and not even as a Linked weapon).

Auto blasters have the autofire effect instead of linked, so a single set of them is capable of landing multiple hits.

It's also possible to have multiple Auto-Blasters set to fire together (with Linked), but you get diminishing returns from this. If you have the money to mount sets of lighter weapons together (or just a Quad Laser Cannon), Auto-Fire is only marginally useful on the chance that you get a whole lot of Advantages and/or Triumphs after dealing with the increased Difficulty (unless you're a high-end Heavy with a particular set of Talents...).

The up side of linked is that it's easier to hit, but it's one target you're hitting. Auto blasters are harder to land hits because of the increased difficulty, but you can divide the hits potentially amongst multiple independent targets. Auto blasters are definitely more of a Gunner's weapon, you need to have the skill level and characteristic to make them shine, but then again, people get drawn in by quad cannons also and without sufficient focus on skill/characteristic it isn't likely you ever generate enough Advantages/Triumphs consistently to get full use from them either.

Linked is great if you are 4 TIE Fighters against 1 Freighter. Auto-fire is great if you are 1 Freighter against 4 TIE Fighters.

The quad laser cannon has two draws. The first is Accurate 1 which can really help when your skill level isn't too high. The second is the price. A quad laser cannon is cheaper than light laser cannons with Linked 1 (which, by my reading of the rules, costs 150% of the cost of a light laser cannon, so 8,250 credits). Now the Linked 3 is really only going to shine with good rolls, but since it's cheaper than getting Linked 1 on light laser cannons and you're getting Accurate 1 in the deal as a bonus, what's not to like about the quad laser cannon?

In fact, I've been considering house ruling the price on the quad laser cannon up to 11,000 credits. That's the price of a light laser cannon with Linked 2 (so you're still getting a great deal), and slightly more than a medium laser cannon with Linked 1. Any more than that and it's rivaling the price of a light turbolaser. I've also considered that perhaps the quad laser cannon should be Restricted. Any thoughts on this?

Neither are any good if you don't have the ability to generate Advantages and Triumphs in excess.

In the Han Solo trilogy when the Falcon is impounded in CSA space there is some line about being far more heavily gunned than permitted, at least in CSA space I guess, so there is the basis for a restricted status. It kind of begs the same question on a lot of weapons both ship and personal, why aren't they all restricted given there is a galactic civil war in progress it would follow most weapons, if not all, would be very tightly regulated.

In regards to price I consider all costs ship compared to personal scale completely cattywompus, so by all means jack up the price.

So, if I buy the third Auto-Blaster I still operate with all of tham as one with characteristics of one?? and If I buy other weapon, for example lasser cannon should I choose? which I want to shoot because I have only one action??

I don't think another auto-blaster is going to do anything for you. You don't improve the Auto-Fire Quality by adding another gun. Unless someone else is shooting that gun, of course.

You could always add an auto-blaster and make it Linked to your existing auto-guns, which I think would allow you to benefit from both Qualities (if you can afford to trigger both).

The Firespray doesn't have 2 Auto-Blasters. The book says, quote: "Weapons: Forward Mounted Auto-Blasters"

If it did have 2, they would need to be fired separately and each would require an action (unless they were linked, of course).

Linking Auto-fire weapons is counter productive. You can technically do it, but you boost your Difficulty by 1, linked weapons have to attack one target, and something like the X-wing or a Quad battery is already linked 3 which means you need a pile of Advantages and Triumphs to get the full effect from the weapon anyway and the additional Difficulty die only works against that.
