4 shuttles with engi upgrades could it be the one?

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Ok peoples could I win this weekend with 4 shuttles using only engi upgrades.

Yes. You could.

A very nice guy ran this list at my stores regionals and won, can't remember what upgrades he had but they were all the same 25 point builds.

If flown correctly I believe so. Though it's not an easy thing to do.

I've beaten my friend a few times with him flying 4 shuttles.

I think it all depends on your opponents, and what they are flying

not about the build its about the pilot

Could you fly 4 shuttles? Yes. Should you? No.

One minus Four is three, and you know what that means.

HALF LIFE 3 confirmed.

Coming out on the same day as an ISD.

You'd be silly to take four shuttles over four Grays with EU.

Now only if they'd come out with a real sequel to counter strike and day of defeat source. The new counter strike GO was garbage.. and DOD? nothing. sheesh. Not really complaining though, i still think valve is awesome! =)

I was thinking about 4 Omicron with EU a couple of days ago. Then I started to wonder if it would be improved by switching out an EU for Vader on one of them...

Pilot ability:

At the start of the combat phase, choose one enemy ship.

You may hit that ship with a crowbar.

This is a list I've run once. I tend to prefer a 3 Lambda list as I can really outfit them. My original is:

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Captain Yorr (24)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

With a newer variant of sniper here:

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Mercenary Copilot (2)
Mercenary Copilot (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Darth Vader (3)

Still, the 4 Lambda list can be a serious threat.

That second list, I'd consider trading Darth Vader for Captain Jonus with a 2 point EPT or Seismic Charges.

Ive run 4 shuttles and they can be very effective. But if you allow your opponent to outmaneuver you, it willtake a few turns to come about, all the whilethey are plinking you to death.

I'm sure the lists are all solid but it just seems odd after watching Return of the Jedi and then playing this giant school bus in a dog fighting game. Just weird. I mean, one, sure. But three or four? Strange looking.

We call it the herding cats list.

I'll be running THE HERD at tomorrow's IA event.

4x OGP with APL + FCS.

Had a test run with it tonight, and it took out Dual Falcons (Chewie and Lando) at the cost of 2 Lambda Shuttles and 7 shields from the remaining Lambda's.

Here's hoping it's at least annoying to other squads that I come up against tomorrow.

Cheers

I played against this exact list the other night, I handed it to the guy with the Rebel BlockORS list (2 ORS, 2 Y Ions).

The main weakness here is your ability to get around the board, and once the ORS were behind the shuttles, it was lights out.

I only Ion'd two shuttles completely, once a piece, because eventually the Y-Wings were just used for damage. It's very hard for the shuttle to get out of the arc of a fighter. Especially considering how obvious their moves are near obstructions.

Having said that - I would like to play against this list with someone who is willing to run them like blockers. The guy I played against I think was stuck on using them like non-agile fighters. He did however manage to not deny himself actions for like 98% of his movements.

Also, it was one of the longest matches I've ever played just because of the sheer amount of damage required to put one down, and the fact that my whole list amounts to 8 raw red dice.

I played against this list recently with a version of HSF. I only lost an x-wing. My remaining B-wing and Han outmaneuvered the Imperial school buses and took them down quick.

I'm a huge fan of the suicide shuttle.... but would never run more than one of these things.

well its 40 points of damage to take down in 75 mins.

There is a lot of truth to this, if you play right and get your ships to block mixing up damage you take it is likely you could simply out last your emeny.

Well, I ended up coming 4th over-all with my HERD, and ended up with a TIE Defender.

Round 1 - Played against a 4x TIE/Int list, and won. 64 points to 50.

Round 2 - Played against a Chewie + 2x Hawks list. Tabled the opponent. 100 Points to 25.

Round 3 - Played against a 2x A-wing, 1x Hawk, & Biggs list. My dice were atrocious. Got a Modified Win. 52 points to 50.

Round 4 - Played against 3x B-wings. Lost. 68 points to 100 (I got tabled).

Ended With 13 points overall. Was in 2nd before the start of the final round, but my loss, and the other 2 players both winning their games forced me to 4th.

Had a great day, and the HERD was amazing. I do think I'd drop the 4x APL's from the list however. I didn't get a single wound out of them the entire day.

Cheers

Did a BatRep on here from a game last week against 4 shuttles. Not engine upgrades, he used Anti-Pursuit Lasers, Ion Cannons, and Saboteur (Asymmetrically). I won, but it was not easy. Basically, if you can get in some practice with the clunky dials and large bases (your Engine Upgrades will help this), you have a good chance. Most builds can't chew away 40 hit points.

In theory you could win with a single Black Squadron Pilot who takes Expose as his action every turn.
