Imdaar Tournaments

By Zoccola, in X-Wing

I raised the question with one of my LGS as to why these tournaments were restricted to the same weekend? In Ottawa/Gatineau, Canada we have a growing X-Wing community, and we have 8 stores running the tournament on the same 2 days, which to me is a little ridiculous.

We have about 60 members registered on our Facebook group, which amounts to about 20 regular players for 8 tournaments held at the same time... I would have thought it smarter to stagger the tournaments across a week or two.

Your LGS stores on running them on the same weekend because that's when fantasy flight said they should be run. You could have probably got one of the stores to run it on Friday like we are but it's a little late for that now.

In Northeast Ohio, we have five stores running Imdaar Alpha tournaments. We were able to get:

  • One on Friday evening
  • Two on Saturday afternoon (they're an hour apart from each other, though, so they're serving different parts of the area)
  • One on Saturday evening
  • One on Sunday afternoon

So players can attend as many as possible. It's pretty nice. Had to bug stores about it several weeks ago to convince them to do that, though.

We have 5 here in the Twin Cities MN metro area. We as a community tried to get them spread out on start times to try and have the best options for all players and stores. we even got one to start at 10pm for a late night rumble. I know some of the players will be hitting 3 to 4 if not all of them.

Some people always complain!!

Where I live, we only have one event...

:D :P

Toys on fire is holding AoIA on friday.

Wizards tower is on Sunday thanks to Jeff D.

Gatineau, Kanata are on Saturday.

My guess is, being a prerelease, by restricting them all to the same weekend we don't have a huge disparity in when some ships are available.

All the prerelease ships hit at the same time. One person can't travel all over an area and win them all up. Also, no one can try and resell one and be the only one on the market because their store ran it early.

The boxes are opened as you win the ones that are used in the final round.

That isn't going to stop people from selling them early for way more than retail. Or trying.

only fools will pay extra for them a month in advance; especially because they not tournament legal until the official release date

My area was lucky enough to get three events. And with a little negotiating on my part each event is being run on a different day.

And we thank you for that :)

it may be intended to help ensure that the top players in an area cannot go around winning all the prize ships, or at least that it is harder to do so

i could use some of that money

help a bro out plz and thanks rich people

It wouldn't be much of a pre-release event if the individual store events were staggered would it?

Where I'm at the Imdaar Alpha events are paced over two weekends..

My FLGS's event is the weekend after. I was wondering about that, since the FFG website does seem to suggest they're all this weekend.

This is the pre release weekend event. They are supposed to run the event with every other store over the next 3 days. If you are lucky, you can hit this weekend and next weekend. Double up your chances.

Have you decided on which one you are going to attend?

Can you PM me with the link to the facebook group ( I most certainly will make the 21st member).

I can't be bothered traveling though :P
