Reasons to love this game.

By Shanester40, in X-Wing

I'm a 40 yr old gamer that will play most types of board games and before X-Wing my only other tournament experience was at GW ran games where juvenile delinquents would shout out Waaaaaaaah every now and then.

About three months ago I stumbled onto this as I'd been looking for alternatives to 40K as I am just so disappointed with GW's whole ethos.

So I started playing this, got my game buddy into it and we were both hooked straight away and decided to enter last months regionals just for fun, out of about 24 he finished 14 and I was 3rd from bottom. But the whole experience was just so unexpected, the other gamers were all like minded individuals of a similar age who were full of help and advice to us tourney newbies, in fact in one game that my buddy was having he made a mistake due to confusion over one of his upgrades and the other guy let basically re-do his move once the confusion was sorted. This resulted in my mate getting his first win!

To me that just epitomises what I love about this game, I can not wait for my next tourney, the wave 4 pre-release on the 8th June. So big shout out to everyone at Beanie Games in Stockton, UK, awesome venue and friendly staff.

To misquote Yoda "The game does not make one great". You can get complete idiots in any game/tournament. Likewise you can meet some of the nicest people that completely thrash your force and you still can walk away with a smile. I am very glad that you have had a great experience, Star Wars is certainly a different atmosphere to other "sci-fi" genres. It again is a testimony to three great movies made over 25 years ago that still resonates positively with people.

So, are you saying the OP is not capturing something about the players of X-Wing and the 'fly casual' ethos? He just happened to stumble upon a few nice chaps who might just as easily have been playing another game?

"It's fun" seems to me to be reason enough :)

In the words of Wolverine, "It's Star Wars!! 'Nuff said".

;)

Nuff said what?

Whose this "Nuff" person anyway?

Ok I'm done :P

Walk away.....

.....just walk away
