All the previous heralds had cards that went with them, so which ones go with the new heralds? Innsmouth look or deepone uprising? I think the look goes with Dagon and uprising is the new board mechanic ala dunwich horror on the dunwich board.
New Innsmouth Specluation
I don't know...Ghroth and Tulzcha had no cards. Extra cards aren't needed for every herald.

Only King in Yellow came with a unique set of cards. None of the others came with cards, but some required expansions.
I don't know...Kevin mentioned the Hydra and Dagon heralds independently of the Innsmouth Look—I'm thinking that IL is in all games with the Innsmouth board. Rather, one herald might accelerate the IL deck (the same way the DH herald accelerates the DH monster). The other herald might accelerate the Deep One Rising mechanic.
The way the Innsmouth look was described it did sound more like a hazard for remaining in Innsmouth, not a herald effect. Then again a herald speeding it up is a likely possibility.
shouldn't there be a new preview?
Someone said that FFG is deliberately holding back so that they don't hype the expansion just to push back the deadline. It's a good move. Dunwich was delayed for... how long was it? Five or six months? People tend to get... antsy.
Third preview is up!
And Tibs, it's on the boat. Only the Deep Ones themselves could delay Innsmouth Horror by much... ![]()
Interesting. The beings of Ib are white, and have absolutely no stats on them. So you never encounter this type of monster.
It's also the only spawn monster with a symbol other than crescent. My guess is that all four beings have different symbols, and the only way to remove them is via closing gates. Awesome, awesome mechanic. Not sure the new monster color was necessary, but maybe there's something else we don't know ![]()
Maybe white means "their effects are in play as long as they are." An "environmental" or "sentry" type monster then.
The Beings of Ib are placed on Bokrug at the start of the game. You 'buy' them off of Bokrug by spending trophies over the course of the game.

I don't want to nerd up an already nerdy forum, but the first thing that popped into my head was Ultimecia's Castle from Final Fantasy 8.
Once you enter, you're blocked from using any menu command except Attack. Each time you locate and defeat a boss, you can choose which function to unlock (magic, item, summon, save, etc).
I thought that was one of the coolest ideas. And it's definitely better than my guess regarding the Ibs. Thanks, Kevin!
Hmm. Maybe the dimensional symbols then determine which investigator penalty is in play any given round? I'm not asking you directly—just more fun speculation ![]()
Or perhaps the beings of Ib card was just a mockup and not the actual card (?). The 3rd preview tells about the Innsmouth Look and shows a sample card.
"Nah, nah, nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, nah na-nanah-nah, nah, na-nanah-nanah, she's got the look..."

Oh no he unleashed the beast.. that song was ment to be forgotten and buried among the tight leather pants and gruelsome hairdos..

Well there was word of a "white-type" monster. I'll bet those are samples of the final versions. Besides, it's on the boat—the preview might as well show the completed versions.
I'd wager dollars to doughnuts that white-bordered means "this monster has a constant while-in-play effect". In other words, "consult the back of this monster as soon as it's drawn", not just when it moves.
I was hoping for a movement type that did that; it makes a whole bunch of things possible which haven't been possible until now. It'll make my goddamn Dweller in the Gulf and Worm That Gnaws things easier to phrase, I can tell you. And I'm pleased they're called 'Beings of Ib' not 'Thuum'ha', because they don't clash with my fan expansion! ![]()
It's a shame that the Beings of Ib specify 'Bokrug', rather than 'the Ancient One' in their ability. If they'd just said 'the Ancient One', you could make custom AOs that use them. Then again it's not hard to cobble together some variants.

Kevin, you know that we Arkham fans love it whenever you post here, but I'm afraid this post has confused more than it has clarified. The Beings of Ib start on Bokrug and you "buy" them off by spending trophies. So do what happens when you buy them off? Are they then returned to the box? Or do you mean that when you spend a trophy for any reason, a Being of Ib comes out onto the board, where it then has its effects (in which case you can prevent them from coming out just by not spending any trophies)? Or does a Being have its effect while it is still on Bokrug's card? Or is the top effect when it is on the Arkham board and the bottom effect when it is on Bokrug's card? Do you have to spend a trophy to buy a Being off before it emerges naturally onto the Arkham board, and if so, how do the Beings come off the card when not bought off? What happens when you close a gate corresponding to the Being's movement symbol? Are they returned to the Bokrug card or to the box? Please clarify!
The Beings of Ib never enter play. They sit on Bokrug's sheet, doing continuous bad things to Arkham (and different things if/when Bokrug awakens). If a Being is bought off with trophies, it is returned to the box. When you see Bokrug's sheet, you will see that it is further clarified there.

Many thanks for such a quick reply, Kevin! So the Beings never actually set foot on the Arkham, Kingsport, Duwich or Innsmouth board. Huh. That does make me wonder why they have a movement symbol in the first place, since they will never move on the board and their effects are continous rather than dependend upon the proper movement symbol coming up. Right now, my guess is that you need a gate trophy with the proper symbol to buy off each specific Being of Ib.
Oh I see. I guess the point is that while they didn't really need to be done in the form of monsters, they might as well be, rather than inventing some sort of other special marker. Maybe I was wrong about white borders them; it might just mean 'the absence of any other movement type'.
There are four Beings of Ib. There's a good chance that they're "symmetrical", so one of the two other Beings will probably upgrade Magical Resistance to Magical Immunity, and the other will improve Bokrug's combat modifier by 2 points or thereabouts (since that's the other simple upgrade for an AO). My guess is that Bokrug probably starts with both resistances, and a modifier of about -4.
In conclusion: If playing against Bokkers, it is clear that you really need to kill the motherfr*kking Beings of Ib.

But you're not killing them... you're persuading them away to worship a new god by paying them off with the dead monster pelts you've collected.
Beings of Ib are set in their ways, I'm sorry. They're bureaucrats.
