Ogryn or Ratling planet

By qcipher, in Only War Rules Questions

Just wasn't sure (and don't have the book with me) but this confused me a bit. The large stat bonuses and penalties they get, they don't add with whatever bonuses that an actual Ogryn or Ratling starts with (from Only War core book) right? And what do regular humans get if they're from there?

The way these work is worded somewhat poorly, but it seems that if you choose one of these home worlds then everybody is an abhuman (ogryn or ratling, as approopriate to the world). These characters CANNOT pick the Ogryn or Ratling support specialist option (most of the bonuses of which are included from the home world). Instead, they pick from the trooper specialties (Sergeant, Heavy Gunner, Operator, Medic, or Weapon Specialist). When they take an advanced specialty, they can choose anything that would normally be open to either their specialty or their abhuman type.

This does create some really weird options, not all of which are going to be setting appropriate even if they aren't specifically forbidden.

When you make a regiment from a Ogryn or Rattling home world they say in the last paragraph of the home world section that player characters can only be picked from the Guardsmen sub type. That means you could have a Ogryn Sergeant, Weapon Spec, Medic, Heavy Weapon and other Guardsmen character classes. You can't pick from any of the support classes, so no Storm Troopers, Commissars or Ogryns for example.

For Lathe world characters they do the same with the exception you can play a Tech Priest from a Lethe world, just no Priest, Ogryn, Rattling, Commissar, Stormtrooper or Psyker.
