Red Squadron x4??

By bzinfinity, in X-Wing

So, in theory - is running 4 Red Squadron Pilots or 2 Dagger, 2 Red, and just finishing off with Adv. S, or a few other upgrade cards -

Is this intentional non-use of Rebel Synergy defeating the whole purpose of playing rebels in the first place?

I'm very interested in flying a uniform PS list, and these both seem to fit the bill.

Red Squad Pilot X4, maybe a droid on one, w/e.

Red Red Dagger Dagger, FCS on one Dagger, Adv. S. on the other?

I think in this build the upgrades are somewhat trivial, since the idea is to maximize formation flying and therefore focused fire.

Both lists amount to 12 raw red dice output unmodified, and 20 and 26 health respectively.

I'm wondering if the X-Wing list won't be more conducive to Formation flight since the dials are all the same, but I have been playing a lot with XXBB list above, fairly confident I can keep them together.

I"m just wondering if I'm missing the boat by not trying to use some major rebel synergy combo.

XXXX and XXBB are both excellent Rebel builds. More synergy options are fun and harder to fly (and fly against), but running four generic PS4 pilots with 3 attack is a very potent amd consistent combination.

When I run 4 X-Wings, I always seem to do better when I spread out rather than stay in formation.

i've run 4 reds quite a few times and always enjoy playing this list. I usually go for 4 R2's and a torp, or 2 torps. To be honest, the list probably won't win the world championship but it is still a great build and is fun to play to boot. One thing to note, during a tournament this list will actually help you out in the long run if you can make it as all pilots have the same PS and less special abilities to remember whereas an imperial swarm with all uniques has a ton more thinking involved in his strategy and remembering stuff.

I actually tend to keep them in formation to concentrate fire at first, then brake off as necessary. Another plus, there really is no target priority here, since all are the same (minus your 8 flavor points).

Personally I've found it depends on what you are going against. That's one of the strengths of these lists, they are very adaptable.

Staying a group and jousting against, say, a swarm is a bad idea. They have more shots than you, and more ablative wounds available. By splitting up you force them to choose a target, allowing you to flank with the other.

But against elite lists, yeah, stay a group and focus fire.

The great thing is you can do both with one of these lists.

maybe Tarn if you have access to him. You lose a PS point but the free TL when targeted sounds really cool.

With 4 X's you can add R2-D2 to one and R5-P9 to another for some shield regeneration.

R2D2 is tempting. Also 4 rooks with 4 torps is fun to play.

I actually think my "Middle Guns" list is a pretty tight:

Rookie Pilot
Tarn Mison +R7
Biggs Darklighter +R2-F2
Garven Dreis

Still four X-Wings. Two very defensive fighters (Biggs and Tarn). Garven to allocate an extra focus to Biggs. Rookie to block. I cant wait to get my hands on an E-Wing so I can fly this.

I have flown the following a lot:

Wedge + PTL + R2

Biggs

Rookie

Rookie

This also works very well, but Wedge has a MASSIVE target on him. In the Middle Guns list, you dont have a powerhouse. Maybe Garven for that extra focus? I havent flown it but Im guesing bait with Tarn and the Rookie, with Biggs protecting Wedge and maybe the others.

Actually the more I think about it, I might drop the Rookie for either:

Airen Cracken +Squad Leader

or

Lt Blount +Draw their Fire +Ion Pulse Missile

Basically giving up 1 hit and 1 attack die for either extra actions each round or to mess with a Stealth Deviced Fel/Turr.

those are good lists. I have run them (minus the cracken list obviously) and also have seen them in alot of the regional results placing decently. I think the OP wanted all the same PS though and seemed to be geared towards non-unique uniformed pilots.

Out of all the PS4 builds, I don't think you can do better than 2x red 2x dagger advanced sensors. Would much rather have arguably the most powerful upgrade in the game. I still personally would prefer to just have biggs + rookie in place of the reds, but there is at least some pros and cons.

How come no one runs XXXB ?

And I've only seen BBBX 1 time.

What about Wedge, Biggs, and 2 Red Squadron? 100pts.

I've enjoyed playing this XXXB build:

Biggs

Hobbie, Stress Bot

Tarn

Blue, Adv Sen

Never played BBBX but I think XXBB is more popular than 3:1 of either is:

1) People's ship collection

2) Symmetry

3) Option for paired movement dials

4) Balance

5) It won the 2013 World Champs!

It's a good squadron, greettings.
