Adventures for 2 PC's

By djjluv, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I did a search and couldn't find any information, but I was wondering if anybody has a suggestion for running adventures for 2 PC's.? I know any of them can be used with only 2 PC's, but I wanted opinions of what adventures are better suited to small groups. Also, what type of PC's should be used on small groups? What careers? I guess it would depend on the adventure.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think any of them can be used with 2 people. You just might need to downscale the combat challenges.

I wouldn't tell the PCs they should or shouldn't be anything in particular. You can run games with all Bounty Hunters and Hired Guns or all Colonists and Technicians. Etc. The great thing about Edge is how easy it is to tailor challenges for the PCs you have. If nobody wants to be a hardcore fighter, I think it's more on the GM to not overwhelm the players than it is on one of the players to drop a character s/he is enjoying and pick up a combat career just because there's a perception that "it's needed." Even more so when you consider any character can roll any skill at any time, even if they're only throwing green dice.

It's possible with 2 PCs just make sure at the minimum they have good characteristics. They need not spec into combat skills, just have decent Agilities. They don't need to be a Medic, a Politico, or a Slicer in particular but mention they might want at least one to have a good Intellect and one to have a good Presence, then they can at the least have good base rolls for lots of stuff.

I was playing solo with my son for a long while. What made it work better is when he added a "sidekick" character (a droid), and I ran an ally NPC with full stats and XP progression. If your players are up to it, running a second PC isn't a problem in this game, and a total of four PCs means you don't have to rescale much, if anything.

One thing I'd recommend if you only have a couple PCs is to un-group minions, or make them max of 2 in a group. Otherwise the dice pools are maybe too powerful.

Another thing I'd recommend is providing a way for the PCs to earn or find weapons and armour with the Superior enhancement. Having Superior Armoured Clothing and Superior weapons will make them more lethal and durable, while not changing the flavour of how they look or act. Even a pistol with Superior can be nasty.

Thanks for all the help.

The reason I was asking about what character types is because I was going to create the characters myself and give them to the players to use. It is for my wife and son who aren't really into the character creation, so I wanted to create some characters for them to use.

How old is your son? I think younger players tend to do better with simpler classes oriented towards combat.

He is only 8, and I agree with you that he would be geared towards the combat side of the game.

I've done several sessions with only two players, I actually find them to be some of the best story driven sessions of the campaign. My advise is let your Player's create whatever kind of PC they want as long as one of them can pilot a ship (they don't have to be a Pilot per se but at least a point or two in piloting) and add in a Droid sidekick that can fill in some of the skill holes, that they order around but you play as an NPC (following the PC's requests to the best of your ability*).

* Don't let them see the character sheet, instead let them learn the Droid's strengths through asking and observation. This can, and has, led to some pretty humours results.

Would he rather hit something with an axe or shoot it with a rifle?

If your wife would rather play a more social or technical role, that could be a good team that could cover a lot of bases. Or if she wants to shoot stuff too, there's always bounty hunter duos!

I think he might want to shoot with a rifle, and I can leave a technical role to the wife. A bounty hunter duo sounds nice too.

I love the idea of a droid sidekick.

Lots of great input. Thanks for the help.
