Noob list for Imdaar Alpha

By serrate, in X-Wing

So, I'm a very new player (only played some games w/ my 16-yr old daughter) and I've signed up for the IA event at a local store this weekend. My original goal was to run XXBB with Biggs, however I only have one Advanced Sensors so that limits my B's a little. Also, I really don't think I have the skill yet to properly use Biggs.

I did try out XXBB for my first (and only) game on Vassal, and got slaughtered, but I can tell that Vassal has got it's own very steep learning curve. Anyway, I decided that perhaps as a noob, I should try to run something a little more forgiving:

Chewie

-Nien Nunb

-Recon Specialist

-Falcon title

-PTL

Blue SP

-AS

Blue SP

-FCS

I've put it on the table a couple times and just flown a TIE swarm (HR w/SD & Elusiveness, MM, Academy x5) against it, and I like the way it performs. Once those TIE's are in range, they start dropping fast to a Chewie with TL and Focus x2, and that leaves me at least one focus for defense. Nien Nunb allows me to shed stress even on long straights, which should make it more difficult to block. Thoughts?

I'm also going to throw in a rules question, because I want to make sure I'm doing this right: Chewie had Focus x2 & TL on Howlrunner, range 2. He rolled 2 damage and a focus, so I spent a focus to make it 3. Howlrunner used Elusiveness to force a reroll on one die. Chewie rolls a focus again and spends his second token to make it a damage. Is this correct? All these modifications happen before the defense roll right? As it turned out, Howlrunner rolled 2 evades and also had an evade token, so he was fine (is this a decent loadout for Howlrunner? +1 AGI and Elusiveness seems like it makes him VERY hard to hit).

Thanks for the help, and feel free to suggest any other builds that you think I should consider.

Your interpretation of how to use Elusiveness is wrong but understandably so, as the order of dice modification can be a bit confusing for sure :P .

The correct order is:

Roll dice (in your case, 2 hits, 1 focus)

Defender Modifies (Howlrunner now chooses to reroll via Elusiveness)

Attacker Modifies (You can use focus token and/or target locks here)

Basically you used an extra focus token when you didn't really need to.

The list sounds very forgiving, and if you have the most practice with it, definitely give it a spin :) . Personally, I'm a bigger fan of Gunner on Falcons but that's just me. It almost guarantee's you do some damage a turn. If you don't own a firespray, you can always sub Luke in place of the gunner. Good luck!

Ah, right there on page 11:

"If the attacker and defender both have

abilities that can modify attack dice, the defender
resolves all of his abilities before the attacker. "
That's even better. In this case, since I didn't use the TL, on the next turn I'll be able to have an evade token, focus x2, and a Target Lock. I'm liking this better and better.
If you were facing this, what would you be trying to burn down first? And what's the best way to counter this?

If I was facing this, I would try to get Chewie at Range 1 with all of my ships and vape him in one or two turns. The Falcon, especially with a gunner or Luke, is more dangerous at a distance where it can still snipe TIEs without being focused all at once.

Alright, good. That's what I thought, so I've been practicing flying the YT through dense asteroids, and then hitting full throttle to leave the swarm behind. I'm sure a good player will still be able to block me, but I plan to leave myself multiple out's. I like the look of Gunner or Luke, but since I'm not too sure how effective I'll be at maintaining distance, I think I'll stick with the TL/x2Focus (and possible Evade) combo. At this point, I've been running it around the table enough to feel comfortable with it, and no one has yet told me it sucks... yet.
