Fleets for the Maneuverability of the Delta

So, I was thinkin (a dangerous prospect, I'm sure).

I love putting Adrenaline Rush on Defenders. The fact that 2/3s of its Turns are red are the only thing keeping this beautiful beastie in check, and I want to let it rage.

And then, I realized: Hang on a tick! Captain Yorr and Wingman are both things!

For the former, I like SableGryphon's Buzzsaw shuttle build (FCS, Gunner, and Engine Upgrade), and the tactic of only peeling off 1 stress at a time, dissappating it into the aether by performing a green maneuver, and both ships getting their actions.

Doing this with Deltas leaves 5 points for upgrades. If the Onyxes are 32 points rather than 33, they're exactly the cost of Sable's regular buzzsaws, and I could slide an Intelligence Operative onto Yorr to boot. Otherwise, it's a Captive for Yorr and 2 points initiative bid.

For the latter, you can either pick a single ship, or 2 Black Squadron Pilots. I went for the latter, as that leaves a dedicated wingman for both Defenders, freeing me up to do formation flight or pincer attacks, or as is the wont with Defenders, both on alternating turns.

Wingman doesn't let me keep my action when I get stressed, but it DOES let me do a non-green maneuver the following turn.

Doing this with Deltas left me with 8 points of upgrade-space, which I elected to use for 2 Engine Upgrades on the Defenders. Now they have a few more ways to hit 90* non-stressfully, and have some wonderful interactions with the Koiogran as well.

I've been leaning towards Onyx because you will generally have an easier time getting your k-turns off against PS1 blockers.

Actually, one of the best uses of Wingman may be to put it ON a Defender. That way it can K-Turn with a "normal" ship, and have both ships clear of stress. A 2 Defender + Howlrunner build could all 3 K-Turn consecutively, as many times as you like.

Still works with 2 Wingmen and 2 Defenders.

Deltas' Koiograns are White, and the Wingmen clear each other's stress.

Deltas' turns are Red, and the Wingmen clear that.

If you paint all the maneuvers White, the difference between the Defender's and the Fighter's dials is that the Fighter comes with a 3 K, and the Defender comes with a 1 Bank.

...so Fie on the folks that say the Defender doesn't fly well in formation.

So true if the PS3 Defender could get an EPT, but I don't think I will use the EPT slot on either Rexler or Vessery for that. I would still prefer to give it to a Black Squadron going with them so if the group decide to hard turn 1 or 2, he can remove the stress from the defender. So, remove it from Howlrunner when K-turning and remove it from the Defender when hard turning.

Fly them in two flights, RexRunner in one, the other three TIEs in the other. Ion and K-turn behind a strong opponent, then slowplay to press the attack. use miniswarm as distraction.

Did any finally took the time to play test all these nice ideas?

Tetran + PTL

I understand that choosing carefully how to play Yorr stress thing is key, the reward may be worth it:

both ships can make white k-turns

hard turn defender without penalty

PTL Tetran, remove stress and perform 1 hard turns all day long

I would think advanced sensors would work very well here with Yorr using AS then take stress off of a defender. I keep wanting to try a Shuttle/defender/firespray list. That's 26 hp from 3 very tough ships, Yorr with engine and AS, delta squad with Ion cannon, bounty hunter with rec spec. That's a real three ship list that the rebels could only dream of!!! Long live the empire!!!

Because action denial is a big deal. A really big deal.

I dunno, I thought Wingman would be awesome, but it triggers during combat.

Not useless, but nerfed badly since you can't take any actions during activation.

Yeah it is but if the defender is stressing to turn its probably doing so to get out of arcs.

What about wingmen on BSP with an Omicron? That would be a good combo, wouldn't it?
