Is Wedge, Rookie, 2 Blues Viable for Tourney?

By quingin, in X-Wing

So, for the event this weekend, thinking about flying:

Wedge

Rookie Pilot

Blue + Adv Sensors x 2

Is this a viable list?

Probably. Wedge will have a huge target painted on his head, so he'll act like an overpriced Biggs.

On paper it looks solid, but you gotta fly tricky to keep Wedge alive.

I should mention I've been playing about 3 weeks, but have already played 2 casual 300 point games, and this will be my first tourney... our FLGS had a buy 2 get 1 free sale, so I bought a ton of ships, then got a friend addicted and he contributed to the fleet quite a bit too.

It's hard to go wrong with XXBB. I'd prefer to split the points a bit more evenly, but it still works :)

It is a viable list but Wedge is clearly "the target" here due to his increase in offensive ability and because he's PS 9 and can play spoiler to several things. Now while Wedge may be the target the other three ships are plenty potent although evening points out a bit could be wise.

Disclaimer: I've only been playing for about 6 months myself and this weekend will be my first tournament as well, so here's the advice I have to give, and which I will be living by myself:

Go to have fun. Put together your favorite ships to fly and go to the tournament and just have a blast. You will probably lose. A lot. Learn from it and congratulate your opponent on his (or her?) win, then ask him what advice he can give you. Go with that attitude and you'll have a good time.

(And who knows, maybe you'll win a few matches, maybe even make it pretty far in the tourney. XXBB is a pretty solid build no matter how you swing it.)

You know, honestly I don't think I'd worry about Wedge. I've seen time and again those B-Wings with Advanced Sensors pull victory. You may even actively bait with Wedge. For a while I was well known for using Howlrunner in this way. Even when i deployed her completely out of formation, they never seemed to get the point. What's really hilarious is drawing half of the opposing squad right through everyone's line of fire just to watch them chase a lone TIE and die horribly for it. Repeatedly.

EDIT: seriously though beware of Interceptors. They will kill the crap out of everything if they've got a PS advantage.
