Imdaar Alpha ships not legal for tourney play

By ziggy2000, in X-Wing

Didn't see anyone mention this yet, but in the news article released today about Imdaar Alpha, it states that the prize ships & upgrades will not be legal for tournament play "until they are officially available through retailers."

Yup. Was the same for the Kessal Run, but those weren't released till 2 months after after the event.

Heh, so you can't us an AoIA ship to win other AoIA events, eh? Oh noes.

Or at any Regionals that might occur after AoIA but before retail release.

Note that there will be events after it's release, so some regional will have wave 4 able to be used.

Check the Tournament Rules, stuff released in the middle of a tournament season, such as we are in now for Regionals, they are not legal. They will be legal for Gencon Nationals.

That's not actually what the tournament rules say. They say that all products are legal once they are released unless specifically posted otherwise. While they may decide to post that Wave 4 isn't legal until the end of the regional season, it is not automatically the case.

Yep, it's the parenthetical that they used that confuses people (emphasis mine):

All Star Wars: X-Wing™ Miniatures Game components are legal for

sanctioned play unless they are marked with the epic icon (ships with the epic
icon ( ) next to the card title on the Ship card can be fielded only in Epic Play),
or temporarily banned from tournament play (such as when a product is
released in the midst of a tournament season).
The bold portion is in parentheses and is preceded by the statement "such as" implying that is an example but not a definitive circumstance. We have the Corvette as a clear precedence as we haven't seen the (non-epic) crew cards as banned and the transport was out just a couple of weeks prior to regional tourneys.

We also have the last few sentences of the article that the OP linked:

NOTE: While top players at this weekend's Assault at Imdaar Alphapreview events will each walk away with one of the upcoming X-WingWave IV expansion packs, these Wave IV starships and upgrades will not be legal for tournament play until they are officially available through retailers.
So, they won't be legal until "officially available through retailers" implies that they will be legal at that point, if they were to come out before regionals.
