Star Wars: Wave 4, The Phantom Menace

"Whisper" + Predator + Advanced Cloaking Device (39)

"Echo" + Predator (33)

Omicron Group Pilot + Darth Vader + Engine Upgrade (28)

So many directions to go with the Phantom. You easily can double up the Advanced Cloaking Device and drop the Engine Upgrade from the doom shuttle.

Where is everyone at on the Phantom and what do you think is it's best fit in a squad?

What does Tactician do again?

But only if you shoot at range 2. The unorthodox choice of stealth device has me raising eyebrows...with base Agility 2, once you decloak you are going to lose the stealths pretty quick, and without Advanced Cloak, Echo's movement shenanigans become much less stellar...

I have just one rule for Phantoms: run either Stygium Particle Accelerator or Advanced Cloaking Device, without fail and on every ship. They're not really optional, and no other modification is as effective.

I do like the free Evade token from Stygium. It also opens up the Doom Shuttle to squeeze in the important Engine Upgrade

"Echo" + Predator + Stygium Particle Accelerator (35)

Omicron Group Pilot + Darth Vader + Engine Upgrade (28)

On Paper this seems like a good starting point for testing. Harder to hit Phantoms phasing in and out while the shuttle does what the shuttle does. The other option is to go pure Phantom:

Sigma Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors (28)

Thing is, advanced cloaking + veteran instincts is really the way to get the best bang for your named phantom buck. It makes phantom flying oh so more interesting.

I am now having flashbacks. Horrible, horrible flashbacks.

"Are you an Ang-"NO. Vader, you should know better.

Not sure I agree with the Veteran Instincts on Whisper as you'll likely have a focus for those few higher pilots out there when they attack. With limiting the number of ships you'll put on the field you want to minimize those bad dice rolls and push damage through. See where the Wes's and Wedge's of the world are heading obviously helps with the decloaking position but for the same points there could be a batter way. Seeing as the Phantom has the Crew slot. Intelligent Agent offers a similar effect while leaving the elite pilot skill slot open for better upgrades.

Whisper, meet Han Solo. Han shoots first. And he doesn't miss.

Intelligence Agent is up there, especially on low PS ships. Knowing where your opponent is going to be will be critical when deciding whether to cloak or not.

W-what?

What about
Howl+ST
Academy
Academy
Delta
and a Sigma in the nude

People want to pop that phantom first (possibly out of spite, i don't know, i don't want to speak for everyone) which gives you a delta firing at 8 and howl as well as 2 academies to ram right up into the other squad. plus you've got 5 ships and a 99 point initiative bid.

"The Phantom Menance", it remember the Dark Era, use other like Phantom Attacks, or others, greettings.

Kaxel, where are you from?

Bah, people really should get off the whole Phantom Menace bandwagon. Yes, it's a below average movie but it's not the gloom and doom the bandwagon pretends it is. Never was.

Anyway, I see tactician mentioned up there. Have we figured out what it does yet?

Aye, and it is glorious.

When firing upon an enemy at Range 2, if they are in your primary firing arc, you may have them receive 1 stress.

This has, among other things, lead SableGryphon to declare a new shuttle build. 2 tacticians, an Ion Cannon, and an Engine Upgrade, at the same price as the old ones. Zzapp them at Range 2, for Stress-Stress-Ion, and definite board control.

... Oh gods, that is glorious.

That's exactly what I was going to use it for.

Tactician is a good crew card upgrade. In a list not carrying any Ion guns I don't see it as that useful.

Stress is useful without Ions. Double Stress even moreso.

Sure I agree stress does have its advantages (even without an Ion token next to it). On ships that already to a fine job of getting out of arches it seems to be over kill. X-Wing boils down to who does more damage to the other player. The other stuff is fun and useful at times, but when I've built list to deal damage effectively I've always done well.

Ahh, but stress also prevents more damage. After all, it's hard to perform a focus or target lock action while stressed.

Hmm, would two tactical shuttles be a potential twin-falcon counter? You can keep the two stressed and ioned permanently while whittling them down.
