Advice on outfitting the CR-90
I won a 300 point epic --- all 4 hours of it -- with the follow list:
CR-90 Fore
Weapons Engineer
Sensor Team
Comms Booster
Turbolaser
CR-90 Aft:
Han Solo
Engineering Team
Quad Cannon
B-Wing Dagger x4
Fire Control System
Outer Rim Smuggler
Anti-pursuit lasers
2x Green A-Wing
Push the Limit
Assault Missles
The CR-90 was kitted up like a gun-boat with some small support options (with the Coms booster). The engineering team gives the CR-90 4 engineer on straight 2's. This lets me shoot the main gun and the turbolaser witih 2 targets with Hans special ability. Plus, it gives 2 extra energy to either use Coms booster or add a dice to the main gun. It did well against the bomber swarm... but the lack of a 2nd quad cannon hurt once they "got inside" my 3-5 range.
Energy management is important for CR-90. Once you start taking hits and need to recover your shields, you're going to be counting every penny of energy.
Plus, keep your B-wings close. Don't make the mistake I did. Once they get far from CR-90, it takes a long time to get them back into the fight. They're a little too slow to go zooming across the board.
Edited by RanditoMy son and I ran an epic game last week, just to try the CR90 out. I took upgrades in each slot, and he chose Imperial ships to match the points. I think it came out to 147 all together.
I used both quad lasers and one single turbolaser. The quad lasers weren't bad, being able to reroll an attack, but I don't think the turbolasers hit a single thing the whole game. I was able to take out his three interceptors, but his three bombers got me. If I'd had some support ships, I'm sure it would have been different, but we were just trying it out. I'm not sure I'm too keen on the turbolasers though. Having so few ways to modify attack dice really seems to hurt the corvette.

That said, the Corvette is a support ship. Yes, it has guns. But they aren't good guns. Just very very powerful.
It needs ships to coordinate and boost. Even 2 or 3 ships benefit immensley from its support, but typically you want around 7 or 8 other ships in epic games.
Single Turbolasers work well against 0-1 agility ships. Against anything more and they do next to nothing. I've seen Firesprays tank whole volley's from the CR-90 and lose maybe a shield.
One Huge ship and 2-3 wings of attackers seems to be the way to go.
Right now I have 4 epic lists I'll tweak as I go along, but I'm going the same way Aminar is.
I have 2 lists with a Vette, one with a bunch of X's and one with a mix of B's and Y's. 1 list with a Transport with X's and A's. Then the 4th list has both a Vette and Transport, Jan and some X's.
So far I like the Vette, it does what I think it should. It offers ok long range snipping power and close in support. It can also be very, very hard to kill if you stockpile energy.
Towards that end I think the Tibanna Gas Supplies and Engineering Team are must haves. You can power up a lot of stuff in the first turn with those 2.
Go 2 forward, and gain 4 energy, allocate those 4, then use TGS to gain 3 more, then in the 2nd turn you only need to gain 2 more energy to be at 5.
Very curious about your squads, care to share? ![]()
Next time I play epic I'm gonna put 2 tacticians on the corvette, along with 2-3 quad lasers, and support it with a transport.
Yes, 2 tacticians, because anything that gets within range 2 of it is going to regret it, quickly ![]()
