Rebel list for my first Tournament

By Bloodravens, in X-Wing

Hi long time reader first time poster.

I have my first local tournament coming up an wanted to run a list by you guys first.

I don't expect to come 1st seeing as this is my first tournament but I still hope to be competative (read not last haha).

That being said I didn't want to simply look a list up from the reginals or something similar I wanted to try and build one my self from scratch, and this is what I've got so far...

The Ion Bombers

(8) Horton salm, R2, proton torpedoes, flechette torpedoes, ion cannon turret.

(6) Dutch Vander, R2, flechette torpedoes, ion cannon turret.

(6) Kyle katarn, Moldy crow, recon specialist, ion cannon turret.

The rough idea is that Kyle passes a focus to Dutch who target locks, allowing Horton to target lock, who in turn focuses, leaving both y's with focused locks in one turn.

Any advice, comments, or criticisms welcome! Thanks ^_^.

It's ok... until you lose the Hwk or Dutch, then the synergy goes down and you aren't dealing massive damage. The Y's can soak up a decent amount of damage, so your key will be getting ships ioned and staying out of their arc..... did not think I'd say that about a Y wing

As Mr. Kyle so kindly indicated, the greatest flaw in your list is single point of failure. The y-wing may have a lot of HP, but with one agility die you need to expect that every hit against you is going through. They can survive fire, but they are not indestructible. They HWK is almost worse in a way.

Further, you are rather light on damage. You may Ion a YT-1300, but it's still going to shoot at you every round. Keep it mind it takes two tokens to ion a large ship, so if you run into a 3 Bounty Hunter list, it's going to be seriously sad face times for you. Much less a TIE Swarm, which is going to pour fire into your defenseless ships.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's a solid, fun list that can mess up a lot of elite rebel lists. But one wrinkle there is Biggs. Sure, you may hit him three times in a round, but that doesn't kill him and 3 ion tokens are the same as 1 on him.

For your first tournament, I would recommend something a bit more standard, unless you are really good with the Y-Wings. Say:

2x Gold Squadron Pilot + Ion Cannon Turret

2x Dagger Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors

Here the Daggers engage first, at PS4, doing what damage they can. Then the Golds fire, ioning the biggest threats they can. It's a LOT of HP on the board so you can control the board, and you have the firepower to attack other lists your suggestion is weak against. It still has flaws and weaknesses, but it's a solid list and one to consider.

Thanks guys! And your right looking at this list it is lacking in offence.

As unfortunatly I have no advance sensors in my collection currently

How about this list?

(8) Ten numb, marksmanship, fire control system, flechette torpedoes.

(9) Han Solo, millennium falcon, assalt missiles, navigator, c-3po, shield upgrade.

Han with two Ion Y-wings will be much better than your original list, if your hope is to be competitive. It will offer you alot more power than the hwk. You will likely have to do without the ordinance on the Ys ( I have not counted the points.)

Never put Missiles on Han. His damage is potent enough with his main guns.

Never pair a Falcon with only a single other ship, unless its another Falcon. You NEED more than 2 ships worth of damage.

Don't give Han a Shield/Hull Upgrade. He starts with 13 hp. Making that 14 is a negligable benefit.

A list I built for my friend that has been frustratingly hard to beat for me (go figure) was similar to championstyle's post.

Chewie in a YT to provide punch and aggro, Dutch with an R2 and ion to target lock and pass on a TL and in general mess with ships, and lastly a no-name with R2 and a blaster turret providing a follow up shot to Chewie's 360 arc.

The idea is Chewie grabs aggro and in general messes with ships (frustrating flying around him since he will move later than most no-name builds forcing them to break, etc) and the 2 Y-wings pair up either firing the ion on a ship that broke off to take him out of the next turn or using their cannons/blaster turret to finish off chewies targets. Dutch TL's his targets and allows the other Y-wing to use the TL for his shot, or blaster turret since that requires a focus to go off.
