Well I picked up a Tantive IV yesterday and was immeaditely dismayed by the size of it. It's freaking huge! So here's my problem: how to store it? It won fit in my regular carry cases and I don't want to spend a ton of money for one box for one mini. Any ideas?
Storing the Tantive IV
My local Wal-mart had a stack of Faded Glory women's shoes on clearance for $5. The boxes are a perfect fit for the Corvette. A bit of foam to support the bow and you're good to go.
Plus, your wife/girlfriend gets a pair of shoes and you get some brownie points.
Not a bad idea.
Hopefully she won't get dressed with the lights off and show up at the party wearing a Corellian Corvette on her left foot.

Plano 732 upper section, with mattress foam taped to the top, and held underneath by gravity. Holds it snugly without bending the turrets. Took the removable bits off for transport.
Laser Touch!
Seriously worth a look, I think they have a thread on here showing their new foam for the Tantive and the transport.
Anyone else see that the 2 main turrets and the radar dish can rotate and come off? I don't it was meant for storage but it gives me piece of mind to know I can store it a bit safer with out breaking them off.
STORE IT?! HAVE IT FRAKKING DISPLAYED ON A SPECIAL SHELF BECAUSE ITS A BEAUTY!
I use Blu Foam and "The Sergeant" by Portable Warfare. I got my Tantive IV today and whilst I'd like to have it permanently displayed on a shelf, I think my wife would divorce me for it. I tried seeing if it would fit on a Blu foam tray, laying on its belly, but it's too big.
So, not wanting to use another method of storage as I like Portable Warfare I started playing around with it and I think I may have a solution.
If the Tantive IV is laid on its side and positioned diagonally it appears to fit on a single 4" tray. There's no way to definitely tell without actually getting a tray and cutting it, though. If it fits it's going to be tight. Just looking at it I'm thinking that I may even need to shave a little foam from the tray walls. Obviously I don't want to shave too much off as it's there to protect the models, but we'll see how it goes. I'll also need to pad underneath the front of the ship as the more level the ship is the less length it has.
I'm ordering a tray tonight. It'll take a couple of days to arrive. Once it does I'll post my results. Wish me luck!!
EDIT - Nooooo!!!! My most places are out of stock!!! Will take a bit longer, it seems...
Edited by DarramoussOK, here is my storage solution.
I've used a 4" Blu Foam tray. The CR90 had to be stored on its side and at the angle shown as the length otherwise would have prevented it from fitting in. The engines do protrude above the top of the foam but by such a little margin that it's negligible.
As you can see, the ship is so long that it does cause the bottom right edge of the foam to bulge out a little. I have shaved the inside of that wall a little to alleviate it, as well as the inside of the wall on the top left of the foam layer near the head. These bulges cause no issues with the foam fitting in to The Sergeant carry case. Still plenty of room to spare.
The hole on the top right fits the plastic stands. They have to be fit at an angle as they're longer than the 4" height of the foam. The hole on the bottom left is for the plastic bases. Seeing as they're different from the large ship plastic bases I like to keep them separately stored.
Oh, Klasmars, I checked again whether I could store it proudly on a shelf. She asked if I wanted a divorce. Question answered.

An old shoe box and a $7 pack of 1" thick foam seat cushions from Walmart. I cut up spaces for my GR75 and CR90 during a dinner break at work.
I've googled this a few times, but haven't found it. Does anybody out there have the over all length/width/depth dimensions?
Specifically I'm curious how tall the engine bank on the back is when placed on its stand
Battlefoam has the cutout, but I don't know how deep of a foam rack I need to order.

I'm probably going to do a custom tray with them that also holds the transport. I'm thinking at least 4 inches, but I haven't really pulled mine from the box since I got it.

Look at the Battlefoam pre-designed tray, I think it's a 3" depth, but I can't get their site to work on my phone right now to confirm.
Display it under the tv!
When u have to bring it with you, hold it in youre hand
and make appropiate sound effects while "flying" it!
Here is what I found. Modified the plastic blisters quite a bit to fit them in, but once that was done it works great. It is a Stanley box, and was $17 at Home Depot.
I hang mine from my car's rear view mirror. Plenty of space, and always ready for action.

I had an old diesel benz with a TIE Fighter hood ornament - you have inspired me to find a way to use the CR90 in the same fashion.
I got this at Walmart for $15. Stuck some foam pads below and above the section where the corvette, transport, and other large ships lives for safety.
I use this 6.5-liter Really Useful Box . I trimmed the plastic blister a bit and it fit like a glove. I haven't glued it in yet, however, as I am debating letting it set as low as possible in the box and using the upper part for more storage.
Is nobody else trying to integrate it with their current storage and transport systems or is everyone looking to get an additional exclusive (semi-exclusive if you're packing the transport with it) case? If so, I must say I'm surprised. I wanted to make sure that the storage for my CR90 didn't add an extra case to carry.
I haven't picked mine up yet, but my friend and I both have Plano 732 boxes. It fits perfectly in the top. Undo the 2 green clasps and voila. I had my doubts that it would fit, but it does. The Transport fits perfectly ON the top as well, in one of the side clear plastic bubble canopies.
When I do pick up my Corvette, I plan on wrapping it in bubble wrap, but using the inside of my Plano to store it. The bubble wrap will ensure it doesn't rattle around.

Like I posted above, I'm going to create a custom tray for my Battle Foam P.A.C.K. 432.
I needed a new storage solution anyways, so I just happened to get one that would also fit the corvette
