Smaller Adventure Modules

So I've been thinking how FFG can get more adventure material out there for GMs who want to grab something off the shelf and have enough to run a session or two without minimal prep.

Obviously they can't go the open gaming license approach because Star Wars is a license they themselves pay for and cannot be farmed out.

I was wondering if they'd entertain the idea of paperback module style publications similar to what West End Games used to do and what Pathfinder very effectively does now. Something about 30 pages at a shot. A module with a self contained adventure printed at high quality with everything you need for a plug-and-play event to drop into your group's campaign.

You could still publish big hard cover adventure books like "Beyond the Rim" and "Jewel of Yavin" twice a year. But maybe once or twice a quarter throw out a 30 page paperback module to help GMs along.

Just a thought. I can and do enjoy writing my old material but sometimes I like being able to drop something pre-produced into my games to supplement the work load. This could be a revenue maker for FFG if they have some manpower to throw at it.

The modular encounters in Suns of Fortune can easily be spun up into a session long outing imo and there are 10 of those I think in that sourcebook. Quite a lot of material really.

I think this is something the gaming community could easily get going. Just takes someone willing to coordinate a project, several writers willing to work together, an artistic & editing team to make things look good, and a shared desire to better the gaming community!

I seem to recall a guy from WotC on the old O66 podcast say that these days hardback and paperback was a production cost difference of only a few cents.

Just saying, that's why you don't see that many paperbacks anymore.

For my weekly episodic EotE game I have needed smaller adventures that can be completed in a few hours. Go to Wookiepedia and do a search for "Web Adventures" They have links to all the free adventures that WOTC put out and they are pretty easy to convert to EotE.

honestly i thought the web adventures were crap and poorly written.

i prefer how they are proceeding with the adventure books now as they don't just contain one adventure but also supplement additional ships and systems. i think it works better in that you get more than just an adventure, but the seeds and materials to craft further exploits for your parties in those systems. i don't think that a paperback 20 pg adventure is what they are looking to produce or they would just start churning those out and find the community would not respond as you think they would. i'm pretty sure the brevity when compared to a cost would have many respond in a way similar to kinnison's take on the web adventures from WOTC. instead, they seem to take time to create really detailed adventures that contain a ton of content that can be extended further that just the couple of sessions it takes to run the adventure. i have both adventure books now, and while i'm not sure that i'll ever run them in the fashion that they are presented, i'll certainly take things from both and see what works for the stories that my pc's are creating each session.
