Rebels for Imdaar Alpha

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

I have been playing numerous lists for the Imdaar event and have settled on this one.

100 points

39 points
Ibtisam
Advanced Sensors, Heavy Laser Cannon, Veteran Instincts

33 points
Jan Ors
Blaster Turret, Nien Nunb, Moldy Crow

28 points
"Dutch" Vander
Ion Cannon Turret

It hits pretty hard, has control options and some hard choices for the enemy on which ship to go after first.

I know it's a three ship and the wisdom with rebels is four, but I have flown many similar lists and they do very well.

Thoughts?

Well, it's a three-ship list and Rebels typically do better with four. (c:

Other than that, I think Blaster+Crow on Jan isn't as good an investment as Ions. It could work out, here: Dutch can make sure she has a TL to modify her dice, and Moldy Crow will let you save up a few tokens for if/when Dutch falls out of the picture--but overall I'm still a little leery of Blaster Turrets.

And I'm also wondering what you do if your opponent makes Ibtisam a priority target. Once she's out of the list, Dutch still supports Jan, but Jan no longer really supports Dutch--which is a waste of her pilot ability.

A better investment instead of Moldy Crow is recon specialist, same cost and lets you double focus every turn rather than trying to hope you can bank enough up before you need to spend them, it means losing Numb but that should not bee terrible (lets you upgrade the blaster to an Ion or gives you initiative)

Unfortunately, unless you really plan on flying slowly (and effectively slow) you really don't have any maneuverability to speak of. Now Ibtisam with the boosted HLC is great for frying enemy units, but once she's gone then you're kind-of f*cked.

If you insist on using these three, and all the power to you if you do, I'd drop Moldy Crow and give Jan an Ion Turret as well, unless you take absolute advantage of those target locks from Dutch for the Blaster Turret (which you should!). With the extra points start looking at astromech units for Dutch. R5-K6 is a moderate risk-high reward droid for him, and if you have it, R3-A2 if you like to really annoy your enemy by stressing and ionizing them.

Not a hard target choice at all, ibby is teeth of the squad so she has to die first. Without biggs Ibby will die first round most likely and for sure won't make it past the 2nd. Pray that you're up against a rebel 2 ship squad and ibby 1 shots someone on the first turn. After that the name of the game is action denial on jan, block her so she can't focus to use the turret. Rebel 3 ships are really fun and have some nice tricks that are built around them but having 2 out of the 3 ships be 1 agility and no biggs is going to be an uphill battle.
