Developing list; "Leading cause of stress"

By Elkerlyc, in X-Wing

I really, really like both the Tie Bomber and the Shuttle.

With the new shiny 'Flechette Torpedo" card I am trying to mix things up into a (fairly) competitive build.

Basic idea; maximise the stress and fly-by with seismic bombs where and when applicable.

3x Gamma Squadron Pilo t (18), Flechette Torpedo (2)
Omicron Group Pilo t (21), Ion Cannon (3), Rebel Captive (3)

87 points thus far. Leaving 13 pts to play with (prefer 12; I expect a fair few Daggers) to optimise the Shuttle.

I could downgrade some or all of the bombers to Scimitars; saving 2 pts per ship.

Upgrades under consideration: Gunner, Advanced Sensors, Fire-control system and Engine upgrade for the shuttle.

Perhaps even Yorr. (for the PS4)

Seismic Charges would be neat too; once (multi) stressed and Ioned you should be able to drop some extra pain.

What would you do? Is this even remotely viable?

Ok, if you wait a couple weeks, you have a perfect shuttle loadout to consider:

OGP + Ion Cannon + Tactician + Tactician + Engine Upgrade

That is 32 points. That leaves you enough to add a SECOND flechette torpedo to each Gamma Squadron pilot as well as adding FCS to the Lambda.

Also, the thread title immediately calls to mind a quote from the IT Crowd:

'Anyone still experiencing stress at the end of the day WILL BE FIRED.'

Hmz.

Couple of weeks eh? I wish. :(

But true; tactician is a neat upgrade.

How about:

==================

Leading cause of stress

==================

Omicron Group Pilot (21), Ion Cannon (3), Rebel Captive (3), Tactician (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Gamma Squadron Pilot (18), Flechette Torpedo (2), Seismic Charges (2)
Gamma Squadron Pilot (18), Flechette Torpedo (2), Seismic Charges (2)

Gamma Squadron Pilot (18), Flechette Torpedo (2), Seismic Charges (2)

99 pts

I like the idea of stressing AND Ion combined with the nasty ability that you take a stress when you return fire.

With the added threat of getting a return shot; adding a second stress AND possibly Ion!

Having said that; a second tactician would free me the point needed for the FCS.

Thoughts? Has anyone ever tried this? What worked? What did not?

If you're only running one torp, you could even consider the Munitions Failsafe mod for the bombers. Would let you keep firing them until they actually hit.

yknow, actually a cool idea. A focus-less flechette rarely hits at all. Could be really hilarious to keep throwing stress at them, but your attack power is seriously shot.

Concentrate your fire. Once a ship has become stressed, just use your main guns from its allies.

Do you think that is better then OGP + Ion Cannon + Gunner + Tactician + Engine Upgrade?

Though I must admit Ion + double stress in a single hit is mean.

Edit: I'm not really sure how I changed the background color

How a bout

Jonus-Flechette torpedoes, ion pulse missiles, munitions failsafe

3x Gamma Squadron same load out

One guy shoots a stress and the other shoots an Ion alternating stress and Ion combos and the munitions failsafe means your ions actually will hit something before you lose them
