Just some minor customizing mostly with calligraphy ink (a black wash), which is isn't terrible to work with. Of the two interceptors, the one on the right was originally a non-bloodstriped one. The Tie/ln was given a wash of purple calligraphy ink, it looks more lavender (the most regal of colors) in real life. And the shuttle i just chose to paint my own name on.
Half assed paintjobs
I like what you did, the wash looks like a good alternative to a full color change. This is going to sound mean, but when I read the thread title I thought this was going to be about some of the paint jobs posted recently.
You've really got me thinking about green washing an X-wing... or maybe an E-wing.
I like that fighter alot
After reading the thread title, I thought I was going to see something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-X-wing-miniature-game-Slave-1-expansion-custom-Firespray-Krassis-/281343495956?pt=Games_US&hash=item4181610f14

That's all? What a steal!

MY ******* EYES
Nothing half arsed about those. All very neat and tidy. I like any pant job that keeps it simple as they are normally the best.
oh wow you have to look at the back shots of the Firesprays on eBay to really appreciate the uh craft.
Sp00n your repaints look nice and clean. What does the Aurobesh on the shuttle say?
Like it nice and subtle, looks factory painted....

Aurebesh : Spoon
Holy crap, I misread that to say eight dollars and STILL thought it was to much...... Your minis look awesome, I haven't taken the plunge to repaint any of my fleet yet though I keep eying the ships.....That interceptor needs a blood stripe.
This is why I am hesitant to paint any of my models...cause I don't want them ending up like that god awful repaint.
Any advice, tips and tutorials about how to NOT have a ship end up looking that bad?
I have yet to paint any of my ships, but I think a dry brush works well on larger areas. Smaller areas brush light with multiple coats, don't cake it on. The OP's wash job is really clean, so that's something to consider too.

I wash models in warm water and Simple Green and give them a light scrub with an old toothbrush to remove the black wash (the dark paint in the recesses used for shading) and use Krylon spray primer. Acrylic paints work best at this scale and I water them down about 70/30 with water (or medium if you're feeling fancy) and block out the areas trying to use thin, even coats. You don't want brush marks on such small models because they will stand out. Let each coat dry before moving on.
Games Workshop makes a line of washes that are really quite good to add shading and definition to models but make sure to let them dry for several hours before even looking at them. I prefer using paints that are one shade up from the colors I used to block out areas to highlight edges, when doing this remember that "less is more."
Finally the number 1 most important tip for beginning painters is to NOT use the smallest brush you can buy. People who buy detail brushes to paint armor panels end up wondering why it takes forever and comes out streaky. If you're painting mostly armor panels (Slave 1, a shuttle, a transport) then use flat brushes, Walmart carries many that are decent enough quality.
Again, search for Warhammer painting sites or videos on YouTube and you'll find TONS of resources about painting miniatures.
I have a primed Slave 1 and Falcon in my painting queue so I'll do some WIP pics when I start them.

Indeed, well done!
Sp00n, the ink wash and the Aurobesh on the shuttle is well done, nothing to be ashamed of. Miles better than the link to the painted miniature that WonderWAAAGH posted. I think I found another badly painted firespray by the same person. Just look at the painted back and lack of attention to detail... Also yours for $80!

In the description he seems like a nice fellow, maybe he's just delusional that his painting is anything but godawful?
Another tip, if you're gonna slosh paint over the lines at least slosh a wash over it afterward.
