First game in 20(?) years

By BanthaFodder, in Talisman

Thought I would share with you all the first game I have played since about 20 years ago. Used to play all the time back then with my bro's.

Although I have been active on this site, it has been all theory. Busy life, y'know?

Anyway, my brothers bought me this edition for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I finally

got to play a game against my wife tonight. She had never played it before and so after a brief explanation

of the rules and goal of the game we jumped in.

She drew Troll and I drew Sorceress. Talk about role-reversal! Anyway, I was keen that she enjoy the

experience and would want to play again but hey, I am competitive and I wanted to win.

Magical Vortex came early and did for my Destruction spell

She managed to pick up the gnome early on, so he was mine soon after... demonio.gif I also got the wand...brilliant! This could be over quick!

How right I was.. preocupado.gif

She had picked up the amulet and I had drawn Random! ****, nothing I could do unless I could get the amulet.

Troll had been turned to evil so a beguile was easier but still failed. I kept running into things that took lives and was regulary

having to heal.

In the mean-time, Trolly was going round killing lots of Enemies gaining strength, managed to pick up Phantom for yet another Strength

and with the magic belt was soon at 12 Strength! Oh, and the hermit turned up and took residence on the Plain of Peril.

So, with me still sat there on 2S/5C/3L/0F/1G Mrs Troll went straight through the Sentinal, PoP, picked up the Talisman and walked through the Strength route. I was stuck down in the outer region desperately ring to stat up but generally losing fights and got down to 1L.

My last throw of the dice was the Random spell I could cast as she had to drop the amulet to cast the command spell. Only a 1 would have helped and she still had the fate token left anyway. Didn't matter - she just lost her 2G.

Then she rolled a 5 for the command spell. I was dead. aplauso.gif

I could not believe the game was over so quick. It always used to take hours and this was one hour tops. That included explaining all the time.

39 Adventure cards were drawn. 39! I counted them. 39 !!

She was very happy and is looking forward to playing again... that's something at least... llorando.gif

It's talisman, you can never see what random wackyness can happen gran_risa.gif wether it be time of the game, what cards are drawn, or that game where youre at the crown and rolling nothing but 1s and 2s and that weak preist in the middle reigon gets to you and beat you....yeah, even if losing to no end, this game is amazingly fun!!!!

So you end the game in one hour? pfff sorpresa.gif

That's very quick. gran_risa.gif

Good game session report, tough luck sometimes. My wife and I had just finished a game of the 2nd edition which she enjoyed so I was allowed to go out and get myself the new 4th edition. We will be giving it a go tonight so I will get her response on how she likes it. happy.gif

How long are your games taking Velhart? My latest game yesterday (3-p as usual) ended in 65 minutes, with the Sage (now 5-3, utterly dominating the win stats) defeating Elf and Thief. Elf died at Valley of Fire, if he'd made it to the Crown, he would've won. 1.5h is about the max I generally see in my games.

We play always around 4 to 5 hours.

Same as third edition now.

Whoah sorpresa.gif !!! How many players? In that above game, the Sage headed for the Crown after about an 50-55 minutes, with Str 8 (10 in battle) and Craft 13 (had Map as well).

My games are very different one from each other. It depends on which players get the most goodies and improve rapidly. Some of my friends are natural born hoarders and make the game last too long. I tend to rush things but the usual misfortune slows me down.

Average is 40-50 minutes per player. The only occurrence that extends the duration of the games is the massive presence of Spellcasters. The longest I've played with 4th edition was a 5 Player-game that lasted 5 hours and was aborted, because nobody was in for the taking and we had to leave the place. serio.gif

Never saw a spellcasting madness like in that game. 2-3 Spells cast every Turn, usually with no meaning except annoying the others. Great laughs, but in the end we had no winner.
