Has anyone ever tried this? Thoughts & feedback welcome!

I feel sometimes the games become repetitive since we all fly according to what the guy is running but what if you could only initially see the pilot cards.

Disclaimer: I've yet to try this but I was thinking of a new game style to add some exciting twists and turns as I was driving home

- At the start of the game all squad cards except pilot cards are facedown, so you get a general idea but can't plan specifically.

- Each player is allowed to checked their cards as often as they like (very often is recommended) but cannot use the EPT, Weapon, Mod, etc unless it is declared and revealed. Once revealed cards cannot be flipped face down thus like actions if you missed it you lost it. (Note revealed shield card counts a shield token)

Thus the owner can either reveal all his cards in the beginning or save them and use them one by one for surprise effect but risk missing its use.

That way when the Bomber gets a lock on you, you'll have no idea if its an assault missile or proton torpedo.

Granted I could see this favoring named pilots w/ more upgrades, but with cards like predator the meta is moving in that direction anyway, and if both pilots are aware of the format beforehand then theres no excuse. Of course I'd only play this with people I know won't cheat.

let me know what you think...

Looks like it might work, looks like fun at any rate.

You might also consider creating a special action for this format called Scan.

Action: Scan

Choose one enemy ship at range 1 in your firing arc to reveal all cards equipped on that ship.

That would favor Interceptors and A-Wings as the fastest ships to speed ahead and try to find out what they can.

I would also place the 1 PS ship as the ship token as well. Then when you reveal the ship you swap out the cardboard with the actual one

There you might run into trouble. Wedge moving first, shooting first?

There's all sorts of possible shenanigans that might occur, best not to mess with the PS.

It's a more realistic (funny using that term in fantasy wargaming) way to play, we've done this in WH40k with hidden units in transports who are not revealed till they get out, same with wargear. Want to know what kind of sword a guy has? Go get in close combat and find out!

What you're proposing is double bluffing not just your maneuver dials but the actual squad composition. Some will enjoy the extra challenge, others will not enjoy getting smoked by surprise attacks. I could see really experienced players enjoying this format but most players will prefer getting to test their tactics and not getting unlucky to be surprised by a point blank Wedge popping an advanced torpedo.

Hidden information is almost universally unfun. Have you played Hearthstone? I think the third panel pretty much sums it up.

Nope x-wing is first and only vice and lol

I'd expect there would be more landslide victories

It was just a thought thanks for feedback
