CR90 first impressions

I posted this on reddit x-wing but wanted to put it here also to see what you guys may have been doing with it.

I played two games tonight with the new CR90. I am a veteran of X-wing with probably 50+ games under my belt but I really sruggled. In the first game I used the required setup for the first scenario. This had me facing Howlrunner and 5 tie fighters. After the first round of combat started I really was surprised. That CR90 can't hit the broad side of a barn! The main cannon is range 3-5 so that means a tie fighter gets 4-6 evade dice with focus on the first and likely second turn. I spent two energy to get my attack up to 6 dice but you can't focus with the CR90!!! That means you never have above a 50-50 chance to hit with the main gun in the first scenario. If you don't have the new Han Solo card then Good luck hitting a tie fighter. They also give you two single turbo laser upgrades. Well you might as well use those to crap with because they are worse then the main gun! Those double the evade dice of your opponent So the ties again are 6 evade and the friggin thing costs 8 points! The only thing that managed to do 2 damage was the quad lasers and by that time all the ties were range one and smoked the CR90. We played a second game with the new Han Solo crew and that Changed things drastically. I landed 6 hits one the first turn on Boba Fett and took him out in two turns. Without a focus type ability the CR90 is not going to win many battles. Maybe I am missing something but right now I don't know how that thing will ever win against 6 ties in the first scenario unless you are rolling all natural hits. Can anyone give me some advice? Has anyone been sucessful with the CR90 on mission #1?

Turbolasers are meant to hit shuttles and the soon-to-be-revealed Imperial huge ships, not fighters. The Corvette and transport are meant to be fun and cinematic to play with, not necessarily competitive or always able to pay off their points cost.

Try taking 1 Heavy Turbolaser and 2 of the smaller cannons. Target locking helps too. But they can't make the super long range guns too powerful.

That doesn't seem to make sense to make a mission that is darn near impossible to beat. I am guessing they will have to add some sort of focus ability or adding Han solo crew to that first scenario or I see it being seriously broken. I know my way around X-wing pretty well but 6 tie fighters smoked the Corvette very handily.

It's terrible! Hardly any energy to use for its guns, terrible accuracy, ineffective against close targets, lousy hull and shields... takes the attention away from skill and tactics in a dogfight and turns the game into 'shoot at the big lumbering ship that may as well not have a maneuver dial'.

The second turbo laser is a bit of a waste really, but the quads are very useful. Also, use TL and Han, take the Tantive title and get some "crew" that can hurt the enemy. Weapons Eng is great.

If the rules for the scenario allowed you to take more upgrades for the CR90 you could take the Han crew then you could do some damage, but that first mission doesn't allow it. I hope it's an oversight.
