Imperial w tantive vs rebel w tantive. 350 point epic game

By nurglez, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I had a nice 350 point epic game recently, and it was a great laugh, my opponent was very happy with me running a tantive with my imperials, just foregoing any rebel only upgrades obviously.

I was empire, I took.

Corvette:

2 single turbo lasers, targeting coordinator, sensor team, dodonna's pride, weapons engineer, quad laser, engineering team, tibanna gas supply.

Howlrunner:

swarm tactics, stealth device

Carnor jax, PTL, stealth device

2 saber squadron interceptors with veteran instincts.

2 royal guard interceptors

3 gamma squadron bombers with proton torpedos and seismic charges.

My opponent took.

Corvette with 2 quad lasers, 1 single turbo laser, han solo, tibanna gas supply, engineering team and maybe a few more.

Biggs, tarn, hobbie, wes and wedge with a variety of torpedos and droids

Lando, falcon, gunner, C3P0, assault missile.

my set up. Carnor jax is at the far end.

My opponent made a mistake and deployed as if the tantive would move at ps4, rather then after everything. This ended up leaving wes and biggs on the left (my perspective) while wedge, tarn and hobbie managed to cross over.

I deployed my tantive second, and way out of range of anything for the first few turns, which was a slight error. in the first turn the rebel tantive took out one of my bombers (out of the 9-10 defense dice I rolled I managed 2 evades with focus..).

I swing round to engage. For about 3 turns in a row lando has to land on asteroids to avoid being run over by his tantive, which was quite funny.

soon...

For the next few turns I bring the interceptors in and end up taking out hobbie, leaving tarn with 1 hp and dinging a few shields from the corvette, while he takes out an interceptor. Carnor has been playing it very slow for the first half of the game and hasnt done anything.

Lando destroys one of my interceptors and damages howl and the other 2 interceptors with an assault missile, killing tarn :D

I manage to get into range of his corvette's front section with fully powered up weapons, while he had been using them to kill a bomber. the turbo lasers fire first and deal 7 hull damage, I then fire the main gun at range 5.

I lose howlrunner and my last ps6 interceptor, leaving me with a untouched carnor jax and bomber with seismic charge remaining, plus a slightly wounded corvette vs a damaged wedge, wes and lando and an untouched biggs, along with his crippled corvette.

My bomber is plinking away at wes while he chases carnor, while carnor and my corvette deal with the aft section.

now you see it. now you dont :D

My corvette dies to lando, biggs, wes and wedge, then my bomber takes out wes and carnor takes out wedge. My bomber then takes out lando with his seismic charge, leaving me with a bomber and interceptor vs biggs. Carnor manages to put biggs down to 1 hit point, my biggs reduces my bomber to 1 hit point, then dies as my bomber scores a natural 2 hits!

The game took about 3 and a half hours or so, including set up. We made a few mistakes and I didnt get to use a bunch of upgrades on the corvette due to me starting it so far away, but this let me join the fight with fully powered up weapons and completely untouched, while my poor fighters had taken a pounding. Carnor Jax proved that staying away from combat for the majority of the game can help in the long run, and that gamma pilot bomber was pilot of the match, taking out wes, lando and biggs :D

I cant wait for my next epic game!

Your set-up was bad, and you made a tactical error on turn 2. One word: Pathetic.

Wow, thanks for the advice. Not like I often run 3 ship builds or it was the first time I had played with that many ships on a huge board.

I did play the game, I did realise my set up was bad, both myself and my opponent made a series of tactical blunders, but we had a really fun game, and learnt a lot about flying huge ships (It moves a lot slower then you feel it should, cos of the sliding move rather then the front to back).

Turbolasers really are one of those things where against another huge ship they will be good, but against snubfighters(especially imperial ones) they are near useless.

Must be fun though flying a Corvette as Imperials :)

LOL at this guy. I believe the word Pathetic would be better served to describe you. Congrats for looking like an idiot.

It was pretty fun flying a corvette as imperials. I'm slightly tempted to do a repaint. well some dark washes then go over the red stripes in purple or something :D

Turbo lasers cost 2 energy to fire, so they are much better vs agility 0 or 1 ships (obviously), yet even vs agility 2 they are rolling 4v4 at range 5, which is quite an eye opener.

Looks cool man...I can't wait to break into a game or two with my Corvette! Thank you for the BatRep!

Sounds like a lot of fun! The Corvette looks brutal! I ran my first tournament with 3 ships then have switched to 5 and it's a big shift never mind jumping from 3 to multiple wings.

Pathetic? Get a grip!

Ultimately, I had a really fun game. I believe you can make some really powerful lists in epic, but games with friends are about having a laugh :D

Next time I won't set up my tantive that far away :D

I will probably do this until they actually release a huge Imp. Especially if epic play isn't competitive right now. Seeing the two Runners broadsiding each other looked really freakin' cool!

Would you say then the advantage goes to the Imperials if they have a Corvette on their side vs the Rebels having a Corvette? If this is true, I wonder how they will try to balance this out with the Imperial Huge ship.

I'd say it still depends on the list, and skill. Though the lower average agility of rebels doesn't help. Though having only played 1 game with large ships and being obviously "pathetic" with them I doubt I'm the right person to ask :P

LMAO! Oh well yeah, if you haven't played 100 games with your Corvette by now, that really is "Pathetic". Omgosh, I mean come on, Man!

Looks like a great time. Can't wait to something like that myself!

Good time, plase put the pictures of your next game, greettings.
