Falcon Mod: What if Han were left handed?

By dojimaster, in X-Wing

So looking thru the Millennium Falcon Modified YT-1300 Corellian Freighter Owner's Workshop Manual (wow, long title), and I was surprised to see an option when ordering the YT-1300 was a left sided (opposite sided) cockpit.

This book:

Naturally, I decided to mod a Falcon.

Toughest part is working out the angle for the cockpit corridor - have to flip the angles pieces over to get the right configuration, and a lot of fill work (not done yet).
Still have to sand, scribe, and paint, but so far I am happy. In no way a master builder but thanks to many here in the community, there were plenty of good suggestions and tips.
I am most surprised how easy it was to cut the cockpit access corridor from the ship, but a really sharp knife is the trick (tried an older one, no good at first).

Before some asks, the hex grid stuff in the bases is a rubberized mouse pad material - no more slips on the playing surface.

It would be funny to play that thing in public and just wait to see how long it takes for someone to realize it is reversed.

Why, that never crossed my mind. :P

Actually, she will be painted quite differently, but its not a bad idea.

Oh thank god. Now I don't have to try and do this myself. I have been wanting to see a reversed falcon like this since modding the ships first occurred to me, but everyone always does the center cockpit mod.

Thank you. Finally have that monkey off my back.

I need to find a place that sells sheets of that material for my bases.

They are:

XTRACPADS PRO HS PLASTIC SURFACE MOUSE PADS

Sadly no longer made but their newer version XTRACPADS ZOOM is also excellent if just a touch thinner . I have yet to test cut the new ones, so make sure YOU think they will be thick enough.

EDIT: The XTRACPADS ZOOM is too thin... bummer. You'd have to use 4 layers of it, so that is not cost effective.

I was gluing washers to the bases before doing that, I was also considering that vinyl nonslip tape I've seen at Home Depot.

This is my next mod.. lol.. should have been my first.. lolhave that book too and just want to build all the variants..

I'm working on a center cockpit modification myself, and when I show it to people, its amazing how many don't realize the cockpit has been moved.

as this is a mirror image of the Falcon, Doe`s Han Solo come with a goatee......

No. This is Star Wars, not Star Trek. Evil people here come with a built-in stereo system.

I was picturing something a little more interesting than just a mirror, like the cockpit rampway going right past the rectenna :P

won't be a rectenna on mine, sensors will all be hidden away, and open areas will be covered..

Okay - back to this project.

So ita a bit darker than I expected (MUST THIN WASHES MORE!), so I'm not sure if I'll quit here or decide to add some more color. Maybe some blood red or chaos red in pattern to dress it up.

Plus I still need to work on the engine glow.....

Nice work!

i was looking at my unmodded YT, and was thinking about doing the same thing.

i have a center cockpit mod and wanted to do something with my 3rd.

i didnt want to try the armored variant i have see (seems like a little too much of cutting fiddley bits out of plascard).

i like this a lot.

i have started every sentence with "i"....why....
