Huge range ruler storage

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

So with the new range ruler being as long as it is how do you go abouts storing it?

Did you only put one black clip in leaving it to swivel?

You put both black center pieces in and just happen to have a case/contianer big enough, or do you just take it apart and put together as you need it?

Range 5 should be exactly 50 cm, which is 19.685 inches.

Battlefoam packs are 15.5" x 12". That works out to 19.60" on the diagonal. So you might be able to fit it across the diagonal in on top of a layer of Battlefoam, but it would probably risk bending the cardboard range ruler if any stress were applied across the bag's diagonal axis.

Just put one peg in the thing and fold it in half for storage.

I'm disappointed in FFG on this one. It wasn't every intuitive.

Though I noticed with only one peg it is a little flimsy of coarse, as to be expected.

Right now I'm just using to box it came in for storing all huge ships pieces for both the Corvette and transport

As of right now I have both pegs in the ruler, and have part of it sticking it out of the box.

For storage I'm using a plano two tier case, and a duffle bag to carry that along with the large ships in their plastic shells.

I think I'll probably take one peg out of the ruler and swivel it for storage.

Was wondering how everyone else managed.

Don't have one yet, but am thinking that putting one of the plastic axle pieces in so it can be rotated, and then having some sort of clip to hold it in place, should be reasonably strong and still easily refoldable.

Magnets.

Just took out the other plastic peg or whatever you want to call it. Easier to store in the box

I just pull out the pegs, reverse the ruler and re-insert the pegs- Now you have a Range 3 ruler, that fits whatever younstore your regular rulers in with little chance of losing those pegs.

The whole range 5 thing makes me never want to use this ship ever. Even folded in half it does not fit in my plano bins.

would be cool if somebody made an "After market" retractable one...

Two neodymium magnets, job done. I'll probably do it Sunday before we bust out the Corvette for her maiden voyage of getting shot at.

you know the black thing that you use to make the dials? there is one extra in a core set so why not drill the "3" in each ruler and use the black thing?

I'm going to make a hole in the the middle of the 3 in each ruler, use one of the provided black things to permanently bind them and then pop magnets in the existing holes. The magnets will secure it open or closed.

I have a shipping tube that I use to transport my playmat. I just slide the huge range ruler right in there with it.

Yes.

Holy Carp! I like it!

8mm x 1mm button magnets work wonders.

My newest box happens to be big enough.
If you like, check out Applied Perspective. They have range 5 rulers now, and instead of plastic black things they're held together by magnets. That'll make for easy separation for storage

I just bought a mini bat display tube. It is basically just a smaller diameter card game mat tube that is 20 inches long. It is perfect for the range ruler. I don't want to mod mine because I may use it in a epic tournament, and don't want to chance it.
