Oblivion

By Bludgeon, in Talisman Home Brews

I'm starting a new project today. The idea is this: (and yes, it borrows a little on Elder Scrolls 4 and Warhammer RPG)

There is an alternate reality coexistent next to the land of talisman. And recently denizens of this place (which talisman people call Oblivion) have found ways to enter the normal world. They live only to conquer and their very presense changes and warps everything around.

There will be a new (rather small) board similar in execution to Timescape but depicting chaotic otherworldly realm of Oblivion.

There is a new taint mechanic. For losing fights with new enemies or traveling through Oblivion you earn taint points. At first they grant you abilities but if you have enough, you mutate beyond reason and you lose your character.

What do you think?

A small sample of ideas

No comments at all? :(

Nice looking cards, but without any knowledge of Oblivion I don't really know how they all fit together. The taint mechanic is interesting. I'd think about the Elemental though as it may be tricky to keep a track of his dimishing Craft.

I too am at a bit of loss as to how the taint works, what's to be gained, when is a character "lost" and how so, and how one would get rid of taint if possible (without such an option, its too much... as no one wants to lose a character for the sake of abilities that will cost that much). There should be a mechanic for getting rid of taint... which sounds more like the old Arkham insanity (or lose of sanity) but in a physical manifestation.

Hey! I know this is a little late but looking through your cards and ideas, it seems really interesting. I'd love to hear more about it and see the other cards.

A very late ;)

When I lost all my materials for talisman last year, I dropped all the projects that were in development, including this one. It's never going to happen, unless someone feels like picking up the torch.

Wow! sad.gif How did you lose them?llorando.gif

Craft tokens. If one has the BI version of the game, rather than the FFG cones. If not, they're easy to make and print... or download from BGG and print. A simple pile of pennies would work just as well.

Bludgeon, depending on your time (and remaining interest), you could fill us in on the basis of the expansion... just for kicks. I'm guessing it has something to do with THIS, though personally I've never played this game... or any of this series of games. It also appears to be an adaption of the Lovecraftian mythos, which was liberally cribbed from the ancient Cthonic pantheons found among the Sumerians, Chaldeans, Akkads, Babylonians, etc.

Ha! Nice case of forum necromancygui%C3%B1o.gif

The idea itself reminds me of Realm of Chaos. It was a fan-made expansion to the Talisman 2ED based on Warhammer world. Jon from Talisman Island could tell us more about it.

Taint points would probably work as gifts of chaos - get a few and you are a mighty champion, get a few more and you are shambling mass of pure horror.

Ooo now thats a expansion!

Which was actually made by a budding designer by the name of John Goodenough! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Ooo Any plans for a new version then :)

interesting. Don't think I ever saw RoC in the 2E days.

Holy cow!! I had no idea sorpresa.gif It's amazing how all this comes together. As for the RoC expansion I think I saw it on some photo of Talisman mega-game years and years ago. I had a little contact with Jon back then and he was kind enough to send me a digital copy of RoC. I was going to translate it to Polish but... I got distracted by something else. I think I might still have it somewhere in my archives. I have to dig it up and have a fresh look on it.
