Can someone take some close up pictures of the CR-90? Specifically the engine bay area? Since I haven't started my work on the GR-75 yet, I figured I'm going to lite up the CR-90 first (I'm more excited about that one anyways)... But I don't have one in hand, and probably won't until next Thursday, sooo... I just absolutely need to have detailed pictures so I can start prepping my thought process on tearing it apart and lighting it up!
Close up pictures of the CR-90
cool picture! Thanks
Thanks Vanor... Can't see much from the first pic, but the second is very useful in crushing my dreams... I don't see any logical place to butcher it ![]()
My mind keeps thinking "why dont' I just take the entire engine bay off" but then I keep reminding myself how stupid of an idea that is. (For those that don't immediately see why, it's because 1) it weighs too much and has nothing to support it, 2) it seems like the logical cut would be real close to the peg, 3) see #1 again)
Yeah, and those engines look a lot more awkward to paint without making a mess of things. What tool have you been using on these to cut them cleanly?

Gutting the MF I just used (several) sharp hobby knives. For the GR-75 (which is now going to be on the back burner until I get the CR-90 done!) looks like I should be able to slide a knife in between the top hull and the bottom and cut off the attachment features, separating it at the seam.
I think, and I could be wrong, that each engine is a separate piece. It looks like they're held in place by the top and bottom halves of the tube section, so if you split that you should be able to dissassemble the whole thing. Again I could be wrong. But that was the impression I got. Thanks Vanor... Can't see much from the first pic, but the second is very useful in crushing my dreams... I don't see any logical place to butcher it

Cool! That'd make sense that they're all individual pieces. I guess I really won't know what I'm getting into until I get my greasy paws on it and find all the parting lines.
Honestly, while I don't have a way to show you pictures, I think you're in luck. The seem runs horizontally along the entire tube section, but cuts off at the hammerhead, and the engine block. Each engine pair seems to be one piece but they are clearly hollow, so extricating the engines will be a matter of spitting that primary seem. It looks like threading wires through it should be easy enough. Gluing it back together looks less than fun, but cutting the engine block off is probably not necessary. it's almost like they planned for people doing this...(Or more likely the model just lends itself to the idea...I mean, you might be able to put little watch batteries into the space below the sensor dish and not even need to pop anything open to replace them...)
But if you put electronics in that back end it's gonna get HEAVY. It's center of balance is already at the sensor dish.
These are from a while back. I have one of my own now.
When I get a chance, if no one else has done so. I'll take some more detailed pictures of just the engine section and post them for you Khyros.
I think the link Hexis has will do more good then I could. I just took a couple quick pic's more for the sake of showing it next to a X-Wing then anything. So I can show a friend how big it is.
