Flying Casual at 60 points

By KraytLeader, in X-Wing

Greetings everyone!

While I'm not new to gaming or wargaming, I would still consider myself a rookie at X-Wing. My work and family schedule has left little time to spend dedicated to a hobby, but my wife and I enjoy this game so much we try to cram a session in whenever possible. I've spent time introducing her to the full rules so she isn't quickly overloaded, and her previous experience with 40K and LotR/WotR has helped the learning process.

We have found that 60 points is an awesome level to play at. Its enough to field multiple ships per side and small enough to play 2-3 games in the evening when we can.

Having only 2 core sets and an X-Wing expansion I'm usually running Luke+Marksmanship and Biggs+R2-D2. She runs a 4 TIE list with Mithel, Dark Curse, Night Beast and an Academy.

That is until she bought me a YT-1300, Y-Wing and B-Wing for a joint BDay/Fathers day gift!

I've been drafting up some new squadrons to play so I can get the feel for each ship, here's two of them:

Chewies Run

Chewbacca

- Marksmanship

- Luke Skywalker

- Weapons Engineer

- Assault Missiles

A Tale of two Turrets

Outer Rim Smuggler

- Luke Skywalker

- Weapons Engineer

Gold Squadron

- Ion Cannon Turret

I'm thinking of trying a red dagger or B.ORS for another list, but haven't gotten to that point yet. Also if you haven't noticed we play WYSIWYG for the time being, adding cards we do not own yet will be one of the last things we play.

Anyways, do any of you play regularly at 60 points and if so, what do you usually fly?

I tried Han/MF. I HATE it. HATE. Played like 5 games or so. Its disgusting.

Its completely unfun to play as or against. And ridiculously powerful and stupidly easy to play. All the maneuvers are green.

><

I'm not saying its overpowered, because by practicing and targetting down Han, its relatively possible to beat. But it feels much harder than it should be.

Anyway. With 60 point lists, you'll note that higher value/PS ships have more worth. Its a concept of army cap, versus total army size.

The lower PS stuff is only cost effective at the 100pt mark.

Ex. 5 Academies vs Biggs and Wedge. Simply target down the Ties 1 by 1 and watch their attack power dwindle.
