Palpatine

By mazz0, in X-Wing

I think that was the attempt at an explanation/quantification of the narrative causality win within the EU universe

That's where it started from, but it's become a bit part of the EU since then. Many RPG's have some sort of Battle Meditation force power, and it was also part of the story line from KotOR.

So a Palp card with something fitting for Battle Meditation would be quite keeping with the rest of the EU stuff.

Palpatine should have some sort of powerful coordination ability. He would control the Imperial fleet and send commands with the force.

Maybe since they are making tokens a huge thing, Palpatine could lend ability to friendly fighters within range 3 that have no focus or evade tokens. Maybe rerolls one die?

Interesting no one mentions Obi Wan as a pilot. Granted he admits he is not a great one, but his ability to use the force might make him interesting, see it now "no he is not the x-wing I want to shoot at"

I don't think they could happen till they bring in prequel ships though, as he's never a pilot in the original timeline.

Admiral Ozzel!

Michael Sheard. 'nuff said.

Tarkin needs to be a crew as well. and I'd expect him to be significantly powerful.

Palpatine should have some sort of co-ordinate or reinforce action.

Ships at Range 2 can receive a free Focus OR Evade token when everything goes "According to plan."

According to my design

Action: At the start of the activation phase you may state what maneuvers you believe each of your opponents' ships will reveal. If you get them all correct then each of your ships may immediately acquire a target lock, focus or evade token.

Make it something like guess the color of each manuever, or the heading of the manuever, or the length of the manuever. Getting every manuever exactly correct is useless. Too many variables.

A crew member maybe?

Discard this card to use a secondary weapon with the Attack: [Target Lock] heading without needing a Target lock on the target

Maybe make it either board wide and like 5 points like Leia, or make it apply to a ship with in range 1-2 at like 2-3pts for those saying it is kinda cheap remember in order to use it you also have to buy lots of missiles/torps to make it useable as an extra "tax" on the ability

wasn't Palpatine the card, where you had to bring a defibrillator to simulate force lightning on your opponent?

I like the "meta" level of that action....

... and while you have that thing there, you also can revive him if necessary ;)

For the Obi-wan crew card idea, I keep hearing his line "You can't win, but there are alternatives to fighting" and imagining some hilarious scenarios where somehow you use his ability when you are likely to lose, and the alternative to fighting involves using some dirty tactic like kamikaze or self destruct.

Obi Wan Kenobi

After an enemy ship declares you as the target of his attack, change his target to another friendly ship he can target instead.

This isn't the ship you're looking for.

Obi-wan Kenobi: Crew (4-5 pts)

Discard this card to assign 3 evade tokens to this ship.

i think the best way to represent this, is put the emperor in the shuttle and and he can do 1 of 2 things. pass out 3 focus tokens to any ship in play or 3 stress tokens to any ship in play, or a combination of focus and stress tokens.

Palpatine

Friendly ships within range 1 may add 3 to their Pilot Skill

How about you just choose one target? Guess it's movement to get to choose a different manoeuvre for that ship, maybe limited somehow such as has to be the same bearing, so it's not overpowered, depending on the cost of the card.

Emperor Palpatine: Crew (4 pts)

At the start of the Combat Phase, you may assign up to 3 focus tokens between any number of ships at range 1-3.

Emperor Palpatine's Shuttle: Title (3 pts) Lambda Shuttle only

increase your Hull value by 2.

how about this....

if a ship with obi wan is targeted for attack, the controlling player rolls attack dice and the attacking player roll 3 attack dice. if obi wan scores more hits and crits than the attacker he can force him to fire on any ship at range 1 from obi wan in the attackers fire arc

I'm personally not a fan of an ability that adds another random chance in order to function, also because it's always a recipe for clunky rules text. :P .

Let's see if we can clear it up a little though.

Once per round, when an enemy ship declares you as the target of his attack, you may have both of you roll three attack dice. If you roll more [hit] and [crit] you may change his target to another friendly ship it can attack instead.

Limited to once per round to prevent overpowering and added rear arc and turrets being affected.

Now you put him on a huge ship with an EM emitter and try to keep yourself between the enemy and a decoy high evade ship.

If both players are rolling the same number of dice, the preferred symbol is arbitrary. Furthermore, this presents a 50/50 chance. The easiest way to resolve this is "roll 1 attack die. On a [boom] or a [KABOOM] result, [trigger effect]."

I think a better title would be giving the shuttle the cloak action, because the Royal Shuttle had a cloaking device similar to the Tie Phantom
