Hobbie, R3-A2, and Flechette Torpedos

By Solaufein, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can Hobbie use his torpedos, take a stress to use R3-A2 and then clear it with the target lock required for the torpedos? Sorry if this is an obvious answer, my rulebook was left at a friends house, and would be nice to get an answer. Thanks!

You declare the target of your attack, and then pick which type of attack it is. Normally, this prevents frolks from saying "Oh, I can't target Biggs, he's at Range 3, and I'm using my Cluster Missiles" or something similar.

However, in THIS case, it definitely works.

On the rest of his attacks, though, Hobbie can simply use his Target Lock in its normal fashion, but this is a good way to heckle folks that are TL-proof.

Of course, against Dark Curse, you could spend your TL to re-roll 0 dice, but that's another thing.

TL:/:DR: Yes. Hobbie with R3-A2 and Flechettes can give someone 2 stress tokens, and come away with 0 stress himself.

Quick question, about spending a target lock with Hobbie.

Hobbie has a lock on Target #1.
Hobbie shots at Target #2, can he spend the target lock from Target #1 (and NOT modify dice) to remove a stress?

Core rulebook, page 11:

"Spending Target Lock Tokens
If the attacker has a target lock on the defender, he
may return his pair of assigned target lock tokens
to the action token supply to choose any number of
attack dice and reroll them once."
(Emphasis is mine.)
Since Target #2 is the defender, and Hobbie does NOT have a TL on #2, the TL can not be spent to trigger his ability.

Ya, that's what we came to as well, but thought I'd check incase something was missed...
