I guess this same question applies to evade tokens. Can the extra result surpass the number of rolled dice?

Yes. Using the Evade Token adds an additional result, as opposed to simply transforming a die.

Even if Kir Kanos is using it to buff his attack instead of his defense.

This is why the word dice is not included in his skill.

Sadly I think it needs to be usable at range one to make him more attractive than other options. He just doesn't do without someone providing him a defense boost or passing him an evade token.

Would you mind sharing builds that include Kanos? I was thinking it may be the excuse I needed to fly with Vader:
